And one suggested a while back that this I6 would produce less hp than the V6 diesels because it's an inline.

It sounds like a decent engine, I like the simplicity of a I-6 engine. The 4cyl gas engine sounds interesting as well.

I popped the hood on a Ford Ranger here in Belgium today. The truck had a 3.2L I-6 diesel and put out an advertised 197 hp. Not quite what the 3.0L trucks are doing stateside, but I too like a good I-6 layout. Everything was nice and accessible. Even my 6'3" frame fit fairly comfortably in the back seat. This will be a nice addition to the Ford lineup once it begins stateside production.

Hey Vern! First I've seen you post over here but enjoy your posts on ram forum that's for sure.

I think this I6 diesel will do well for GM, at least I hope it does. We are very lucky to have so many options when it comes to trucks these days. I've always liked I6 engines. The dodge slant 6 was very durable, as was the 4L, the gm and ford I6s were stout especially Ford's 300 I6. It will be interesting to see how they make out once they are out and have some miles on them.

THIS may be my wifes next winter beater. EcoD 4door Rubi, baby!
I wouldn't p!ss on the little V6 gassers they've been using if they were on fire.
Jeep shoulda kept the 4.0. Wish they'd kept it a couple years at least into the 4 door Wrangler models so there'd be some available with real engines.

@vern, are you sure about the TQ on the upcoming Rubicon? That would be disappointing.

Interested in this lil I6. I think the 282HP 450TQ 28hwy 10 speed look good.

New Jeep Rubicon diesel is specked 260HP 242TQ
My lil conservative tow tune ED 268HP 485TQ

28 Hwy looks good considering the tall big box front end.

7,800 tow rating looks low my 4 door ED is 8,800 but really I don't care what Ford etc rates them if you are buying it to tow 9k+ load you should be looking into the HD platform. Certainly it has the power and gearing to tow more.

I'm not sure I trust the 7800 rating in this doc.

That platform with the same rear and transmission is rated to much more, and to be competitive with the other half ton diesels they would need a higher rating.

So unless there is some issue with the engine holding it back, I'm not sure a 7800lb max rating makes sense.

We'll just have to wait for the official specs but I am looking forward to seeing what they are.

Sounds like that will be a winner. I hope they put it in their Burb/Yukon XL. Iโ€™d be interested in that more than the truck.

Cool to see these big power baby diesels.
From someone who's @ss has been planted in a 1/2 ton truck for at least 15 of the 23 years (some years I had a 3/4ton) that gets driven 30-40k miles per year and randomly worked like it's a bigger truck than it actually is, I can say I'd love 25mpg avg (less fill ups) and 10 speeds with 450ft lbs in front of it.
Only offering in higher trim is missing the market. Incentiveize it for fleet/construction use in the low/mid trim models and then convince my company to buy me one!

Anything new will have issues. Look how terrible the Ford modular V engines were in the beginning. Having to warranty so many flying spark plugs and exploding timing chains was a great incentive to make the modular the bulletproof thing it's evolved into.

Keeping it straight is a great start compared to the others that swing both ways.

Look forward to seeing some towing tests on this one.

I look forward to seeing if this (and the Ford baby diesel) can prove themselves reliable and durable over the long run. I'm going to say the Ram EcoDiesel is......what I'd call so-so for those categories. Not a disaster by any stretch, but enough issues I don't think I'd buy one. Diesels aren't the bulletproof workhorses they once were IMHO. I think they are getting better than the choked up junk they passed onto consumers in 2008 - 2010 (no matter the brand), but I still think today's diesels, although very powerful, don't measure up to the durability and longevity of the 5.9L Cummins and 7.3L Powerstroke in their best iterations.
