I dunno about terrible... Lots of people do it near as I can tell. I see many campers on the road without Jacks attached, know quite a few people on this forum does it too, and have done it myself a few times also.
It is quite a bit of weight depending on the jacks you have. "A couple hundred pounds" is quite a lot to those of us with smaller trucks. And when going off road those big sticks sticking out are just asking to be ripped off, hell even in a parking lot, or close quarters residential area, and cause more damage to your camper.
So terrible? not even remotely... Just depends on your individual usage case.
