Hail damage repaired...what will I find next???!!!

Long story short, bought a 2013 Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS last spring. Love the trailer for my family of 5. Over the summer had one particularly nasty hail storm (thank goodness for MaxxAir covers, though) and had approximately $12,000 in damage done (rear, entry side and top of the front). Being that it is practically still brand new, decided to have the dealership fix the damage over the winter.

Fast forward to this spring. On our way to grab some things from our trailer that is parked at a friend's acreage, the wife notices while driving up to it, that the sheet metal on the front is a different color (the 2013s have a silver grey front and rear). Now, because only the top front sheet metal had hail damage, they only replaced the top front that is a totally different shade/color of grey. Second thing...looks like a 5 year did the caulking job, third...the rain gutters are low in the middle and high on the ends, forth...the rear bathroom entrance door is scratched right down to bare metal on the very top. After more than a few trips to the dealer, as well as phone calls, the response is "we are human" and "we are doing our best".

Sorry as this is a bit of a rant but just had to share my wonderful experience so far lol.

Hahaha...no lol. Although we did have snow on the ground till the end of April this year.

I have talked to them numerous times and yes, I am being very professional about it (I own my own business and was in retail more than 10 years). It is just getting extremely frustrating.

Thanks goodness I have an aunt that sells insurance and the very first thing she told me when I decided to repair the damage, was to NEVER, EVER sign anything.

Tomorrow I will be contacting my insurance adjuster as well as making a call to Jayco CS.

I should mention that the caulking has been cleaned up somewhat last week when I first dropped off the trailer for them to look at in person and also fix the main entrance door (forgot to mention that, too) that had a 1/8" - 1/4" gap around the entire door.

See what happens tomorrow.

So sorry....looks like they used a butter knife to spread the caulking. That is dreadful and I agree about getting back to insurance....on a regular basis until this is fixed. Please say you didn't sign off on it as being acceptable.

No I haven't talked to my insurance company yet. I was just hoping the dealership would take care of everything which I am finding out is easier said than done for some reason. I just hate the idea of them opening up my trailer, yet again, to replace the front and I have no clue how they are going to fix the rain gutter. The kicker is they also said that none of this would affect my resale value...ok...I was not born yesterday lol! I will be calling my insurance company and see what kind of response I get.

MY DH was in the auto body business for many years and trust me the squeeky wheel gets the grease....when you speak with them be professional BUT forceful! Tell them that the repair is NOT acceptable and you would like to have an adjuster come out and inspect it!!!!!

Good Luck!

You're right, that's not close. I would want it all one color or the other. And, if the vendor has changed the color of the skin and that's all that is available, I'd be dogging my insurance carrier to re-skin the whole nose.

You might want to post the name of the dealer here to see if others have had shoddy work. Might give you something to negotiate with when you tell your insurance company you want the work redone by another dealer.

Here is a pic of my trailer and you be the judge...

It's more of a dull grey rather than a silver. I will also be contacting Jayco direct and see what they have to say about this, too.

Wonder if there is variation, however slight in color of the aluminum from production run to production run from the supplier? Is it subtle or really noticeable? If that's the case, would not seem unreasonable to totally re-skin the affected area. At least in theory, the insurance company is supposed to make you whole again. Good luck.

I totally agree. That was my first MAJOR concern...that the work would not be up to the same standards as it was from the factory. I was assured it would be so that is why I went ahead with the insurance claim and had the damage repaired. I now find out the front sheet metal was ordered not from the factory in the USA, but from a different manufacturer here in Canada (cost too much to get it direct from Jayco, I was told). It's insurance...account for the extra cost of getting the correct sheet metal from Jayco and do it right the first time. I am now stressing big time about the remaining shotty work, so to speak.

Have you notified the insurance company???? I'd be talking with them everyday until this is resolved!!!!!!!!
