- ppineExplorer IIPorta botes and cheap plastic kayaks can get you in some real trouble on Lake Powell. They are best in small channels in the morning. The main lake on many afternoons can eat little boats.
- Kayteg1Explorer IITake a look at my pictures on 1st page. The Lone Rock campground is beach campground with no marked sites. There is designated launch pad, but be careful if you don't have 4WD
It is huge land and when sites along the water are the first to be taken, there is no way they will run out of space.
$15 regural price is hard to beat. - HarleybulletExplorerAre there BLM sites for TC near the lake to launch a portable boat at Lake Powell ?
- joelmExplorerI've launched my 12ft Portabote 4.5 hp Johnson near Bullfrog Marina and cruised through many of the coves with no problems. Start early and use common sense.
- Kayteg1Explorer III guess by now my replies show how fascinated I am with Lake Powell, but this truly is body of water that you won't see anywhere else in the World, or very likely in Universe.
I've seen lot of lakes in my life, scuba in famous Boden Zee as well Lake Tahoe and that was disappointment.
For 20 years I was trying to gather my California friends to rent big houseboat and spend whole week on Lake Powell.
That would be great as those 100' + houseboat come with 4 bedrooms, generators, bathrooms, huge holding tanks, water slides, sundecks and more.
That did not work for me as my friend were always "too busy working to become millionaires" what made me taking my family there with Cabin Cruiser.
But if you can gather big party, that would share houseboat rental, you are for vacations of your life.
Again, the best part of the lake is too far from marina for 1-day trip, so you need something you can sleep on. - HarleybulletExplorerTravels with Yoly was a great view of the lake...great job.
Question... Do you just move from site to site or do you have to have reservations?
Do many of the sites have launching facilities?
Dave - Travels_with_YoExplorerWe've been to Lake Powell 4 times with 3 different boats. Two of those trips all the way from Georgia. Our first trip was in an 18 foot open aluminum Gregor Sea Hawk powered by two Honda BF100s (which are in fact a propshaft rated engine with 8hp). This was in the middle 1980s. Then the second boat was an 18 foot Deckboat powered by two Honda BF90s in the middle 1990s. Then our most recent trip about 8 years ago was in a 15 foot Zodiac RIB powered by a Honda BF75. This boat had a top speed of 44 mph and could cruise at 30 mph for two days on a tank of fuel. We covered about 250 miles a day using Bull Frog as our base. This particular adventure was documented on our channel in a Playlist called Lake Powell all shot at the end of September .....
Six days exploring Lake Powell from Rainbow Bridge to Hite in a 15 foot boat. - Kayteg1Explorer IIThe situation can change from season to season, but when I was exploring the lake with my cabin cruiser few years ago, any spot was good spot for camping.
With lake 93 (?) canyons - lot of spots available.
Those close to Rainbow Bridge do get crowded with houseboat, so take the spot earlier.
This is great area and if you can afford time and gas money, you will appreciate driving into the lake. Farther you go from Page, the rocks start getting red and pulling boat to 100' vertical rock, knowing you have at least another 30' wall under the water does make impression.
Bare in mind - you have to carry ALL your waste. - HarleybulletExplorerHow ARE HALLS CROSSING, HITE, BULLFROM and Wawheap set up for camping? Are reservations needed, is it boondocking, how long can you stay if you launch a boat? It is a long trip out there from NY so I would like as much info as possible...thanks
- thedavidzooExplorer IIJust some pics of the 4 of us kayaking from Lone Rock access, across the open water to Lone Rock and up into some interesting canyons further on. Fun stuff.
We did end up "towing" a boy each behind our 2 kayaks when we had to cross back over the open water in the wind. The boys were only 12 and 9 at the time, so tired a little quicker, but we are always prepared on our adventures.
