Hauling bikes

On the front of the TT also a no, we feel the back up camera on the Avalanche would be blocked.

Nothing is in the bed of the Avalanche or stored in the boat.

Our spot for bikes...Even with the long slide in on our 27' TT there is lots of room to walk around and use anything. We put my bike, with a quilt around it standing beside the bed, fits perfectly. Hubby's bike, with a quilt lays on the floor in front of the bed. We can still get in the TT if necessary and nothing has been damaged carrying them this way.

1. Depending on front location, they may interfere with the headlights when driving at night.

2. Hanging them on the front will allow them to pick up bugs and road debris you now see on your grill. Covering them will cause airflow issues to your radiator.

3. They can be mounted on the back with a swing out carrier to easily gain access to the TC.

4. You can also look at ladder attached bike mounts.

5. Even though your bikes will be trailing you if you mount them on the rear, the vortex will still ensure that they are dirty when you get to your destination.

If mounting externally I think the rear works better, but we usually have an enclosed garage behind us that keeps the bikes clean and dry.

I used to carry my bike inside. Sure it got in the way, but it was in a overhead bunk in my camper, (bunk cabinet over the dinette) that I normally did not use except for storage.

In the rear seat area of the cab or on the cabover bed with an old beach towel under it.

Pretty bicycle-hostile area hanging off the rear of the camper- we have returned home after a trip and the back of the camper will be filthy. IMHO, no place for a bicycle. Unless the bike is a wallyworld POC.

Have used a front hitch carrying bikes all over the Country; up/down, day/night, hot/cold...couldn't be an easier way to haul 'em!


Agree...bikes will get dirtier in back of camper than front due to slipstream...

I have hauled our bikes to Alaska and back on the back of the TC. They were kinda of our lifeboat just in case we had trouble with the truck. We bought a nylon bike cover with a zipper the bikes stayed clean the whole trip even while traveling on dirt roads. I agree with bedlam the front is not very bike friendly especially all the bugs that you are going to hit as you travel, getting the bugs off the bikes after your trip could be a real pain.

115* through the desert with two bikes on the front and no cooling issues. I really don't want to have my 48" hitch extension on the rear of the truck if I don't need it
