Howdy. Manager of a dealer said to not bother with an $800.00 slide topper if I buy a trailer from him cuz topper puts additional stress on the slide out motor. He seemed sincere and said he could recommend it to us and make the money but felt obliged to speak the truth. Your thoughts?

I wouldn't own a camper that had a slide-out without a topper. If the brand you are looking at has a slide-out that can't handle a topper, then look for a brand that can handle one. Look at a Arctic Fox or Nash product.

Agreed. I have 3 of them and retracting my slides involves no extra work or messing about beyond pushing a button. l will have no slide without a topper. But that's me. Those that prefer not to want / like them - as long as that makes them happy, then that is all that matters.

I like my slide topper. I also don't see where it adds any extra work for my slide motor to get it extended.

Someone said run away from that trailer, and I'd have to agree. Not all slide systems are created equally.

Howdy. Looks like the Camplite 28BHS by Livin'Lite has a topper as part of the standard equipment. They must see value in it as a selling point.

We have slide toppers on our motorhome. We like them but I can also see why you might not want them if you camp primarily in areas where it is windy and there are few trees. They do tend to flap in higher winds. I see you are in Utah so that might make a difference to you.

X2 I hear folks complaining about them all the time including here. Just something else to spend money on.

Our TT came without slide toppers. The sales guy told us he'd be happy to get them installed if we wanted them. But he probably also wanted to get the sale done, so he said they where just a nice extra - not a "must have" and, for us, it would add a bit of weight as the slides are a good 12 feet long or so. Even being newbies at this I figured there'd be a cheaper way to go than the dealer install, so we decided to wait and use the TT a bit before deciding to add them, if we even do.
