Hello everyone.. new member here.. My name is Sean. Air force vet, currently natl. guard. Married with a daughter, two dogs and a cat. 🙂

I have a 28 ft. 1994 Cobra Sandpiper travel trailer. i have a question regarding the heat... it has a thermostat and floor vents... but the heat doesnt do anything. ive tried for the life of me to find the furnace/heat source... but i cant find anything.

Is there a furnace? where might it be located? It would be great if it could be figured out soon enough.. snow is on its way in tonight and its beginning to get a bit chilly at night.. haha

Im also having issues with my Norcold fridge- not doing anything at all, not even lights on control panel. But thats for another topic..

My furnace is under my couch in my 32 ' sandpiper right next to the refrigerator.

Woodsean,
Nothing wrong with your camper that a little elbow grease won't fix. We just recently sold our 1995 Sunline and bought a 2013 Jayco. When I brought the Sunline home, my wife looked at me like I was crazy. A few months later, we had new drapes, "repainted" the valances, new carpet, new blinds, and the entire outside was buffed and waxed. We ditched the mauve carpet that was prevalent during the '90s. We all start somewhere. You will have a hell of a lot of fun in your camper, and it may one day lead to upgrading. Enjoy what you have. And thanks for serving, we do appreciate your sacrifices.

Sean,

You can likely find furnace, and other appliance, parts at PPL, along with blow apart diagrams for most of it.

You might have to navigate around for a while, but once you get the hang of it, they have nearly all RV parts going back into the '70's.

Ive actually had that same idea.. haha.. i dont believe one was there- its agood 1.5 feet off the floor and would make for an awkwardly tall couch... but i thought about making a couch-type frame and putting some cushions down... i would like to move the water tank still to make the box a little smaller- there isnt a whole lot of space as soon as you get in the door...

Sean,

Looking at your photos, your floor plan is common to a lot of trailers with a FB (Front Bedroom). Look at the Puma 23FB or the Jayco 22FB as examples. (one of these days, I'll learn how to paste photos...)

The weird platform is where a convertible sofa/bed is generally placed. (They too can also be expensive to replace.) The space under the sofa generally conceals the fresh water tank and furnace/heater.

In the Puma 23FB, there is a full height wall behind the sofa with an opening for a sliding door to the bedroom for privacy.

In the Jayco, they have a wider opening behind the sofa and use a full height sliding curtain for privacy.

Just some ideas for layout and privacy.

Good Luck.

I wonder if there was once a small couch mounted on top of the box that you call the weird box. Even if not it would be a nice place to put one. That would be easier then moving the furnace and fresh water tank. Maybe even a couple of small swivel chairs could be mounted there. Then get a flat screen TV on a swivel wall mount and put it where that picture is above the dinette seat. That's what I did and I like it there. I bought a TV mount that comes with a second wall mount that allows me to lift the TV off and it then easily move it over to my bedroom area.

I like it, many of the pictures of trailers seem so generic. For some reason to me this one seem to have some personality and comfort. Just looking at it makes me want to go camping. 🙂

X2 The green isn't soooo bad. At least it's not pink or purple like some are. But, that's just my opinion. I know others vary and some people like the pink or purple.

there might be a place designated but i figured i would put up some pictures of what we have... its not beautiful.. but for what we paid, i cant complain.. 🙂

Outside

The kitchen/dining area with the door to the bathroom in the background.

Bedroom area.. i plan on putting a wall up eventually to close it off a bit more..

The strange box in the middle..

And inside the box is the holding tank and the elusive heater.. haha
Im pretty sure its not original manufactured and that it was moved here for some odd reason...

The wifes truck.. AKA our tow vehicle.. our "plastic covered Tahoe".

well, it looks like ill have to remove the exhaust from the outside and disconnect the wires and maybe one more screw in the back (wall side of unit) then hopefully it can come straight up out of the box. We have an electric heater to keep us warm but i would really like to get this going so we can actually use ut when we arent connected to a main circuit somewhere...

randomly however, my fridge actually "turned on".. well, the indicator light on the control board did- and the switches change the light back and forth from auto to LP or off... BUT, it doesnt seem like anything else is occurring.. behind the fridge (running on 120V) i would expect to feel SOME warmth from the coil warming up the ammonia... but i cant feel anything.. havent bothered with propane yet- i doubt the pilot will light anyway, so id rather not risk leaking the propane out..
but the fridge doesnt seem to be getting any colder... im sure it might take some time, so ill give it another day...

oh and the camper is level etc..

I use a ceramic heater 95% of the time. Much safer, more reliable, and I'm not burning LP when using one !
