Help

Has anyone here who has a Lance model 881, who has added a battery an solar panel? Our Lance has a single battery on the passanger side and a 50 watt panel on top up front. Would like to install another battery or maybe two under the rear driver side w/ slide tray an add a solar panel to support . We could run wire over to the generator box to tie into existing battery circuit. Problem is we are reluctant to go threw the roof to install new controller. Most solar additions we've seen here and on RV.net have run the wires threw the ref vent ....ours doesn't have the ref vent because the ref is located on the slideout. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
  • What Reddog said. I had to drill a hole through my roof into a cabinet and fish the wires down into my battery compartment. I have an aluminum roof so I was able to just use dicor around the hole in the roof.
  • Another possible way to run the wire is through the holding tank vents. Typically, when the TCs are manufactured the black pipe (ABS) is ran from the roof down inside the TC. The hole is cut oversize in the roof to accommodate the ABS vent pipe. A cap is then place over the ABS and hole, to prevent water from entering the TC. If you remove the cap, you will probably see several ways to run the wire between the hole and ABS.
