- djcjcExplorerI grease the ball the sockets for the bars but never the cams. Makes for less noise and easier hook and unhooks.
- rbpruExplorer IIMy Blue Ox has grease fitting on the bar connector mounts, because they swing in and out.
- harley4275Exploreryours is not an E-quilizer brand. E-quilizer brand do not have grease fittings.

Any type of grease will do for the ball. But do not grease your weight distribution/anti sway bars (Equal-i-zer type). The contact points where the bars meet need the friction to do their job, and grease defeats the purpose.
Then why does my WD hitch platform have grease nipples on it at the contact points? - GeoBoyExplorer

I always greased mine before every towing session if I had unhooked from the trailer.
If I did unhook, I always wiped the old grease off the ball to get rid of any dirt and to help keep my pants clean.
Used an old can of wheel bearing grease.

I am with Barney. I use Equalizer brand of grease. A little bit goes a long way. - westendExplorer

Actually, Eual-I-zer suggests greasing the sockets of the head with either their own specialty grease or other heavy grease. - martiprExplorerWonder why so many people on the forums know so much more about a product than the manufactures? I could be wrong but I don't think there is any hitch manufacture that does not recommend greasing the ball. Guess they just don't listen to the experts here.

Any grease will work. This isn't a case where you need some special lube.
I started using Vasoline because it washes out of my pants easier :R
Vasoline isn't actually a grease. Reese hitches prohibits grease on the cam surfaces but oks Vasoline. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

I've been puling trailers since the late 60's. I've always used grease on the ball and in the coupler. The reason I use it is when you have 2 types of different metal (ball and coupler) they rub or gall. Would you not grease a bearing or a 5th wheel place? Then why wouldn't you grease the ball?
Because a bearing makes LOTS of heat and friction at 60mph and would soon seize up with no grease. Unlike a ball which pretty much makes next to no heat or friction when running down the road.
I've greased for many years and then I stopped greasing. I found no difference other than I have no grease on my pants anymore since I've stopped greasing. :B - 64TrvlrExplorerI've been puling trailers since the late 60's.
