I made my own using a 6 gallon boat tank and I plumbed it to run two generators using boat tank fittings.

Running one generator all weekend fishing uses less than half a tank.

I made my own from a powersports style tank I had.... I couldn't see the point in buying another gas tank.

I used outboard motor fittings, and an outboard motor hose with the prime bulb to start the siphon. Works like a charm, even running twin EU2000s.

It was far cheaper to build my own than buy the kit online, plus I didn't need "another" gas can, which would only have "one purpose".

Yes, it needs to be full.

I've done a LOT of tinkering with the Honda EU gens. Making your own extended run set up is SUPER easy. So is your own Parallel Kit.

Most people don't know this, but because the bottom of the built-in tank is lower than the carb, there is a very small fuel pump on them. Because of this, it's very easy to set up an extended run tank because the fuel pump will create a suction aka, siphon, and as long as you have a sealed cap and hose on the honda gen going to another tank, you're set, it will siphon.

ANYTHING will work for the second tank - just a sealed lid with a hose going to any normal tank with a vent/air inlet. The fuel pump can create enough suction for about 1 to 2ish feet of siphon lift.

Bought the 5 gallon tank at Wally World, ordered the fittings online. Works well....as long as the tank sits higher than the generator until it gets siphoning good. Had one of those "DUH" moments when ours quit running while using the brand new tank. Set it up tired at night in the dark and by the COLD light of early morning when it quit running saw the error immediately. They make a dual fill tank and set up for running two 2000s together. Generator must be full when you hook up and start using it, at least 2/3 if I remember correctly, then again I'm the one that set the thing up wrong the first time so take me with a grain of salt.

I made one back in 2007. The metal can is still working great. Post.

I got one of the 5 gal. extended run tanks from Amazon I think.
comes with a new gas cap for the honda and connects to new tank...
Basically keeps honda tank full from extended tank.
Make sure the big extended tank is vented, it has a vent on the cap but I found out it doesn't always vent... I just loosen the entire cap on the big tank... it will run for days with the extended tank.
