Hot Water is Only Warm Water

This issue might be a continuation of yesterday's problem. Yesterday my issue was that the water was not heating up. Well after an hour or so it got hot but today, the best I can get is somewhat warm. My unit is new and I am waiting for service to call me back but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was thinking about turning off the electric heating switch and waiting and trying again.....but open to other suggestions.

if you asked the salesman, then you shouldn't be surprised you got the wrong answer. They are there to sell, nothing more. If you talk to the service manager, you probably would get good information.

I had a similar problem for a while until I closed the heater bypass fully - the hot water was being mixed with cold when it was only half opened...

The dealer told you wrong. The cold line on the bottom open, hot on top open, the bypass closed.

The cold water comes in the bottom of the heater, as it is warmed it rises, hot water is taken off the top of the heater. By pass is closed or you are just mixing cold water back in with the hot water.

For winterizing, all valves are just the opposite, and you drain the water out of the heater so it doesn't freeze and bust the thing wide open. Then you can fill the lines with antifreeze and the antifreeze won't get into the heater (which is not wanted because its too difficult to get all the antifreeze back out of it).

Cold water in should be open, hot out should be open and the one that hooks the two together( bypass) should be closed.

remember there has to be cold water into heater and hot out. two lines

When I did configuration the dealer suggested all I get out hot water is cold. So I reversed and will let it try and heat up for awhile.

I am not sure how to attach picture and due to location there is not much light for a picture. All I can say is there is a valve at top of unit and one at bottom. Neither is labeled red.

Sorry

Attach a picture of the valves at the water heater.

There are a couple configurations and the picture may help to determine which you have and which valves should be open or closed.

Talked to dealer and they said:

1. By pass valve should be open.
2. Valve that draws in anti freeze, closed.
3. Top valve open to bring water to heater
4 Lower valve closed it is bonging cold water to tank.

Will check back in a few to see if this configuration works.

You need to test. Bypass valves usually need to be closed. The valve that allows antifreeze to be drawn in by the pump needs to be closed. The valve that allows cold water to be drawn into the botton of the HW tank needs to be open. If there is a line between the hot and cold sides, that valve also needs to be closed. Also check to be sure you did not trip the breaker.

It is an Atwood W/H. I am trying to heat the water with electric. I did check outside shower and in door as well. When I de-winterized yesterday should all water valves by heating unit be open? I know the by pass valve is open now but what about the other two?

This can happen when one of the shower heads is turned off at the head when the water valves are left open. Hot and cold can mix. Check inside and outside showers.

Did you accidentally turn it off? Check to be sure the outside shower is not on, do you have gas? Or are you trying to run it on electricity? W/H brand? Did you try resetting the high temp sensor?
