So we were camping this weekend and in the site next to ours, one of them is running around with a t-shirt sporting a local High School next to where we live, so I make a comment "GO Rebels" (HS Nickname) and she picks up on it right away. After a brief conversation we find out that she is a neighbor.

So how many times have you left on camping trips only to find your neighbors camping there too???

During one camping season, we met another camper from SE VA at our dealer's campout then again in Fort Myers FL. Same trip met a camper we had visited with in W VA also staying in St Augustine FL. Again same trip met 3 different groups that had been at Crooked River SP in GA a few days later in NC. Glad for the accidental theme for that season. Other less enjoyable themes have been 'camping in the rain' and 'camping next to the louds'.

In 1945, as my uncle's ship was pulling out of SF on its way to Japan (going to invade, this was before they dropped the atom bombs), the guy next to him said "There goes the Gohldun Gyate" - my uncle turned to him and said "What part of Charleston are you from?" Yep, he was.

This past winter we were at a campground near Vandenburg AFB and the part time host and equipment operator at the CG lives about 1/4 mile from our home and we both worked for the same employer and are now retired. He is seasonal at the park and they do all their major upgrades and repairs during the winter.

My wife an I have different birthdays, but we were both married on the same day. Is that a coincidence?

I was at a business conference with a coworker, and she started chatting with another attendee. They both learned they had sons that played high school football (same league, different schools). The other gentleman said his son was the starting quarterback, and lost the final game of the season to my coworker's son's school. In the final minutes of the game, the quarterback was sacked, fumbled, our team recovered and scored, winning the game and the league championship.

My coworker beamed as she said "Yes. My son sacked him."

When I was a teenager I ran into my H.S. Home Ec teacher on the top of Mt. Washington, NH. We are both from NY and I thought that was so weird.

How about running into a somewhat distant relative from home, while hundreds of miles away from home in Maine? Small world it is.

Last year while camping at a campground about 25 miles from home I was in the bathroom, noticed a guys skeletoes in the bathroom. I said hi, etc. and then went and told my wife about the funny shoes. That night as we were walking around another section of the park someone yells my name as we were walking our dogs, it was a fellow I had worked with for over 20 plus years. It turns out it was his son that I was talking to in the bathroom. Seen him again this past Memorial Day at the campground, now we are friends.

This is kind of backwards to the topic but you were my temporary neighbor while camping! Our house is about 3 miles from Tom Johnson's.

Never. That's why I sold my house to full time RV as far as possible from them! :B

That said, no matter how far away I travel I do always run into someone from my state and more than likely they live within a 50 miles radius of where I use to live. I do enjoy meeting and talking with them.

Iโ€™ve had a few of those crazy coincidences over the years. I grew up in Canton, Ohio and there were two brothers that lived a few doors away. Then working, in the 1960โ€™s, I went to Douglas, AZ, a nowhere smelter town on the Mexican border. I saw a new gun shop and went in to check it out. And guess who the ownerโ€™s were. I thought it was an extraordinary coincidence that I would run into them in a place like Douglas.

Another time in the early 60โ€™s I was driving in Phoenix and a guy kept pulling alongside me and staring at me. So I pulled off onto a side street to see what his problem was. He followed me and we both got out and he said โ€œIs your name Fryer?โ€ I said yes and he said โ€œIโ€™d know that Fryer nose anywhere, do you know a Bus Fryerโ€. And I said, yes, heโ€™s my uncle. It turns out he owned a local trophy shop but many years before had played semi-pro ball with my uncle in Canton. I never thought my nose was unique, but then maybe Iโ€™m just not very observant.:D

Then just a couple of years ago I hired a couple of guys to extend and enclose my carport into a garage. In a conversation with one of them we found he lived very close to me on the other side of town and we hit the same bars. No biggie, but then we discovered he grew up in a little farm town about 10 miles NO me in Ohio. And we could discuss the same hangouts there.

Another oddity, one morning some years ago I got an email saying my tickets to the theater were confirmed - in Denver. I replied and told them thanks for the confirmation, but I was in Phoenix and didnโ€™t think I could get there in time for the show. They followed up and said the wrong Ron Fryer โ€“ thatโ€™s right. That was followed by another email from the right RF and in the conversation I found he was the son of my cousin in Dayton.

So I guess the saying โ€œitโ€™s a small worldโ€ isnโ€™t far off. None of these are really RV related, but I donโ€™t usually camp around many people so I donโ€™t get many opportunities for that sort of thing camping.

Wife and I are both from So. Calif.... While we were sentenced ( I mean STATIONED) in Norfolk, VA, we were at a ship's Christmas party.... across the room from us, was a lady that went to high school with my wife. Definitely a small world.

This is not RV related but falls in line with the thread topic.

A few years ago, a few friends and I planned a surf trip down to Panama (not Florida, actually Panama). The trip consisted of flying into Panama City, then taking a chartered bus ride 6 hours north and west to a very remote area on the north coast of Panama. From there, we got on a boat and it was about an hour boat ride to an island where the surf camp is. Spent 1 1/2 weeks there, leaving the camp and took the hour ride back to the port. While back at the port, my friend heard a guy talking, who was not with our party, and said he thought he recognized the voice. Turns out this guy used to be my friends immediate next door neighbor from 3 years ago.

It was very odd but a situation/story I will never forget.
I love me some land yachting
