HOW to GET RID of a LOT of GOOD STUFF I Might Use Someday

Never done it, but I guess the mantra to keep repeating is "Do I really need this?" or "Do I really need this many of this ?"

I use the back seat of the truck for lawn chairs, generator,firewood and small stuff. We like to cook on the campfire so we use stainless steel cooking rack and Rome pie irons. If you can put solar on your camper that way you only carry the generator as a back up. The main thing is to keep it simple.

You are full time and this is going to be home?

Are you sure you don't want to take a multi month trip in the truck camper to see how it goes before getting rid of everything? I might be tempted to store the class A and associated stuff for a few months to make sure that such a small camper would work out for you. We travel months at a time in our TC but it is pretty spacious with 3 slides and about as small as I would want to live in FT.

I traveled cross-country nearly three years in a TC - just returned once in a while to visit son and family. I packed tools and other sacred stuff in a small rented storage building. Never needed it, until I eventually returned and bought another house. Was glad I kept the stuff, but only because I quit traveling. You just never know the future.

We (we now, not I) travel frequently, still in TC, but not full-time now.

I moved from 40' bus conversion to 12' TC.
The trail motorcycle, who with foldable bars would fit into bus storage bay, will not fit inside TC at all.
2 years ago I took trip from Vegas to Florida and generator was used heavily whenever I had no hook ups.
This year I drove to Alaska and the 120 lb of generator + roof AC seems to be dead weight, so you can't say what and when get used. Now I think I could take Alaska trip with 20lb inverter generator I bought just becouse could not pass the $150 deal.
Removing AC for vacations up north?

Our previous RV was a 32 ft Class A. Most of the compartments and cabinets were full in the C/lass A.

You may or may not be able to get by with less. I suggest trying to avoid bringing anything with you. Maybe make a list of what you want to bring and think if it fits or not. Going to a popup is not much more than going to a tent. I don’t think we’d be able to do that for more than a day or two.

I recently moved from a 30ft travel trailer to my 9.6ft truck camper...Amazing how much stuff gets put in an RV when you have the room,a lot hardly ever used...I just put all the important stuff in the truck camper and have a box in the garage with the leftover stuff from the trailer if I ever need it....

Some of the TV shows use the three pile method:
1. Must keep
2. Not sure
3. definitely don't need
and go from there.

We went from a 24' FW to an 8' truck camper and it was surprisingly easy. The reason it was easy was our trips had changed.

With the FW we would set up for 10 days at a time in the middle of nowhere and needed the ability to haul 10 days worth of stuff.

With the TC we spent no more than 2 nights in one place and then moved on or headed home. We could resupply easily along the way and didn't need much more than the clothes on our backs, a coffee pot, and a couple of chairs.

A lot of the extras we had in the FW found use in our home and the rest was donated to a young couple that was buying their first trailer. We had the tendency to carry far more than we needed just because we had the room and it wasn't in the way.

Now when we moved from the TC to a 40' TH that was a whole different story:(

Remove everything from the old RV and store it in the garage or basement of your home. Load only those things you need for your first trip and nothing else. You really don't need to drag along a 100 piece socket wrench set. No ... really ... you don't. Come-on' now.... you don't. Leave the temptation at home. Go camping.

Now after your first trip, consider only the items you need for your current rig. What good is a 1 7/8 inch socket when the largest bolt on your rig is 3/4???? Remove that stuff that you just don't need and never will.

Ah! Now you've got the idea!

Once you've found your new balance with the smaller living space, you will be free to discard everything left behind.
