I take back all the good stuff I've said about Les Schwabs!

Sooo, in my 8 years up here in the PNW, generally had pretty good luck with Schwabs. Lots of fleet vehicles, so plenty of truck tires, brakes, patch a loader tire at 1am stuff.

Last night I drop off my company pickup AFTER calling earlier in the day to confirm they could do what I needed. Shocks, brake pads (maybe rotors but likely not), oil change, balance and rotate tires (Schwab Toyos).
Guy calls me this morning to go thru the work needed. Shocks/struts, 1 blown 1 leaking, check. Brakes, pads low on both axles, check.
Rotate and balance, check. We don't do oil changes! WTF? Guy yesterday said no problem....ok whatever.
How much? Shocks/struts, $900 something, ok good. Brakes? $2100!
Again WTF? Sir we only replace ALL components. Pads, caliper and we will see if it needs rotors...
Huh? It's a 3 year old truck, no need for calipers. Sorry that's our policy.....

Gd@mmit. Now I gotta make like 3 separate service appointments. 1 for the shocks 1 for the brakes and probably 1 for the oil change separate.
And to boot, drove my personal truck to work and clipped a limb that was sagging and cut off protruding into the shoulder, smashed my passenger side mirror at 6am in the fog.....

Les Schwabs can kiss my @ss.
Anyone know who else sipes tires in the Seattle area? That's the only need I'd have to go back there. Since they now won't mount non Schwab tires either.

FWIW, Best Tire in Covington has provided great service, now a few times.
This time was no exception. They said they even put it on the alignment rack and checked alignment. For free. I already knew it was good but that’s good service. And they have good prices.

That must be a Discount issue, ours is the same. Never get in there with a trailer.

We like Discount Tires for the car but their parking lot at the store near us is a postage stamp. I can barely get my dually in it let alone any trailer that I'd like to take there. Les Schwabs have always had the big rig area in the back to take my boat or trailer.

My 01 RAM had a LS brake job from previous owner. YEP they replaced the calipers with only 80k on the truck. Sure enough shortly after I bought it I heard scraping on one side. The piston had frozen on one caliper and ground down the pad to steel.

I replaced the front cradles and went with 3rd gen calipers, rotors and pads plus replaced calipers rotors and pads on the rear. The braking is INSANE now! EBC pads and rotors plus PowerStop calipers and cradles. All top quality US Made.



As usual more noise from the CHEAP seats.

I didn’t read all nine pages, I will say that I know their policy is all new parts and a complete job. Personally I have only not rebuilt calipers once, and those brakes locked up.
I do my own brakes and turn or replace rotors and rebuild calipers.
I had one parts guy tell me I couldn’t correctly rebuild the dual piston calipers on our 1979 F250 front brakes. He said the pads would wear out quickly, well 70,000 miles later they were still going strong.

Les Schwab family just sold the business. Friends daughter was involved with the sale, closed this week!

But Best Tire has been good to me recently. So Truck is there now.
And go figure, same Toyos were about $65 less per tire, but I’m giving some Nitto Terra Graps a try. At under $200 for top of the line E load ATs, not bad.
Gonna run em for a bit, no siping, to see how awesome they are and if I end up doing a bunch of snow driving, they’ll go under the knife.

Still gotta get back to Les Slobs to have them warranty the China c rap struts though.

I have used them for decades. Tires on everything. The last set of tires Maxxum for my girl;s Jeep got 24,000 miles. No mileage warranty. I am going elsewhere.

So I just called my favorite tire shop for some new skins for the company work truck. Needs some 265-70-17s. Bout the cheapest full size truck tire out there.
As we all know Les don't have exclusive rights to Toyos anymore and that's what I wanted on the truck.
More importantly, they're the only place around that I've found that will sipe tires. Which is really unfortunate. (Future business opportunity??)
So I get the guy to stop trying to sell me the Sumitomo Mazama ATs and he prices the Toyos at $289 a piece!!
I didn't do my homework first but checked when I got back to the office. That's about eggzactly $100 more PER TIRE then you can buy them elsewhere, online or tire shop!

WTF over??
I was ready to pay a bit more for the convenience of getting them siped right away.....but can't do it. Not a 35% upcharge on what apparently is a profitable price for Everyone else already.

Screw that place....think I'll wait til morning after they're shipped (they don't stock 'em) to cancel!

Oh and magically, the Mazama off brand tires were the exact same price!

Idk how their place is always packed with vehicles. I'd love to open a half dozen tire shops next to their shops and NOT screw people...Just because!

They will however warranty my lifetime struts that sacked out earlier this year. More no name pieces of chit those things are...
Maybe they need to charge more for the tires to cover the warranty labor on the other junk they sell...

When I first started driving I went to Les Schwab, I was pretty much a life long customer until they lost me. The reality is that after Les passed away the company changed. I had two close family friends that were career Schwab guys, both of them pretty much got screwed over by the new Les Schwab company.

For me they refused to stand behind their tires, and as a life long customer I was really shocked. When I asked about their slogan, "IF WE CAN NOT GUARANTEE IT, WE WILL NOT SELL IT " they said these tires had no warranty.

I walked away for them 10 years ago and I've never been back. Every time I do get a quote for tires or service they are the absolute highest out there. Thankfully my locally owned Tire Factory takes care of me, and wouldn't you know the owner is also a former Schwab guy.

They used to be good at least.
