Insurance

What is the name of your insurance company and how are the rates for full timing? Any advice on what to ask when shopping for insurance? i was informed there is a discount or it is cheaper if you inform the insurance that you are not full timing any advantage or disadvantage there? What is your experience? How many nights a year determine full time for your insurance company?
  • By not being honest with your insurance co. you provide an opportunity to deny a claim if there is one. Ins. cos are in a conflict of interest position: they have our money but also a vested interest in paying out as little as possible.

  • Try Gilbert Insurance. They're fast, friendly and work with some of the largest companies out there. I insure through Progressive.

You should be honest with your insurance company.

  • National Interstate Insurance is for full timers. You do have different liability as full timers. They have different options, for example new cost replacement or blue book replacement. They include Coach Net in the premiums which I like. Contact one of their agents and get a quote. It's not cheap but seems like good coverage. Haven't had to use it thank goodness, but we did use the Coach Net once for the toad (flat tire) and it was awesome!
  • For a full timer the most important feature you'd want is that the trailer is covered when not hitched to the tow vehicle.
  • I have had different insurances, some will actually be cheaper if you are full time, some not. You really have to just ask up front.

I heard i should not tell them i plan to full time in the TT.

Why would you NOT want to tell them? When you total your rig on the opposite side of the country how are you going to explain that you can't just fly home because the TT was your home.

Full time insurance also provides increased reimbursement for belongings that a weekend camper normally wouldn't have in the RV.
