Intersection: Your TC and old man winter. Post up your pix.

With a comprehensive blast of cold air over much of the U.S. and Canada, with attendant frozen precip, I thought it would a good time to see how you are faring in the annual interface between your TC and old man winter. You guys in the southern hemisphere can wait 6 months to respond. Might as well show your snow fighting and snow motating machines too.
We had a foot of very dry snow fall overnight. The water content was 25:1 That's dry. We are used to Sierra Cement, a very high water content snow, 10 or 12:1, more like a snow cone than the dry stuff most others can get. Everything set up to dump a dry, cold snowfall. This is the first time I have ever seen snow drifts here on the west slope @ 4K feet.
The temps during the snowfall were hovering in the low 20'sF. Here is what jefe actually looks like on his way out to climb on the tractor: not to confused with seldom seen Smith!.

I pulled the tractor out which was hiding the TC snug its little domicile, 4 inches higher on 8 jacks than it sits on the truck. I can just back the truck under it and lower the jacks. As you see my TC is in two distinct parts at the moment: a T, and a C.

Here in southern Indiana we have received about 10 inches total in the past week which is unusual for this time of year. Temps are getting down into the teens tonight and single digits tomorrow night. My camper has been sitting in the back yard as it will not fit in my barn as hopped. Here is my Arctic Fox coping with the snow, just waiting until next month when I may actually be able to get out somewhere and camp in it for the first time.

Well, since we have not snow yet, and have been in the upper 30's to low 40's (nearly summer weather for Kodiak, Alaska, I'll leave you with the link to our Thanksgiving a few years ago that we spent in the Avion Camper as a family of 6 in near and sometimes below zero. Have a good read!

Dodged a bullet here in SW Virginia. Was predicted a major ice storm but only got minimal damage with no major power outages. I was prepared to move into the camper.

Well, how about a dose of reality in 'dealing' with the cold. RV anti-freeze is hard to use for cleanouts, when it is so cold it is already slush! Somehow, I don't think it would have worked trying to pump it through the lines as opposed to using air. Yes, I should probably have had a jug INSIDE the camper instead of several in the cold boxes, and several in my cold garage. It's good to be prepared to use EITHER method as you always want a back-up!

Doh! The camper performed well this week, spending a couple of days outside the transmission shop running the heat and waiting to be brought inside for service, and then being dumped in sub-zero weather, and finally being brought home and fully winterized late on Friday night in, well, very cold temps.

It was nice to have all the vehicles and "stuff" finally at home together after a really long fall being spread all over the place due to fires, floods, and even freeze-ups of Clear Creek which caused this weekend's evacuation of the campground we had for two months this fall. I'm waiting for famine and locusts to come next.

We had to make a quick trip up to the Jamestown, NY area just before Thanksgiving for a funeral. Managed to make it up and back between storms. On the way up we went through a part of KY that my wife's ancestors are from. Spent our first night in the parking lot of the Maysville, KY marina. The bridge over the Ohio River is in the distance.

We spent the next day tromping around in the cemeteries of Maysville, Minerva, and Dover, KY looking for the graves of ancestors. Found several.

In Minerva, we stopped where my wife's grandparents house was located. It's no longer standing, but we have many pictures dating back over 100 years with this house in the background. It was across the street from the grandparents house. The earliest pictures show the house with a full covered porch across the front.

While talking to the current owner, a truck pulling a load of tobacco came rolling by. The old man flagged it down for us so we could get a look. We'd never been around tobacco farms before.

We made it up to NY the next day. We stayed at a church owned campground in Findley Lake that was closed for the season, but the owners were kind enough to let us park there anyway. They had already winterized the water system that served the campsites, but we had access to water from inside one of the cabins. The electricity and sewage were available for us to use. We saw a little snow while we were there, but nothing major. The overnight lows were in the mid-teens. Since we had electricity, we were able to keep things thawed out and had a comfortable stay with full use of our camper.

The funeral was for my dear 92 year old Aunt, who was in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps during WWII. She was laid to rest just a few hundred yards down the road from the dairy farm she and my uncle owned for over 40 years. The funeral service included the military honors she had earned. With me in this picture are two of my cousins, my aunt, and the bugler who played taps. It was a touching farewell for a wonderful lady. We were all very thankful for the cold but sunny day. I've been up to my ankles in snow at the same time of year in the past.

Driving around the area we ran into a roadblock. These guys are getting the last of their feed-corn harvested.

On the way out of town we stopped in Erie, PA to visit my favorite meat market up there. My Grandmother, Aunts, and cousins all bought their meats from Urbaniak Bros. It's been owned by the same family for three generations.

On the way back home, we came through the Smoky Mountains, and spent two nights in the park. The overnight lows here were around 18 deg's, but we had no hookups. We were able to stay warm using the LP furnace, and spare use of the Yamaha 1000 to keep the battery charged.

The views at Clingmans Dome were cold and "smoky".

Cades Cove was as usual, beautiful. You can sure appreciate why this area was settled.

I've always found the Cantilever Barn interesting.

"Bee Gums". Hollowed out sweet-gum log sections that were used to raise bees for honey.

One of the original settlers cabins in Cades Cove.

Sorry about the lack of white stuff in any of these pic's. :W Old man winter was kind to us on this trip. It could have been much worse.

We had to head home the next day, so that's about the end of the pictures for this trip. Due to being tied up with building a new garage all year, this was the only trip we made in the camper this year. ๐Ÿ˜ž

The camper is in the garage now being worked on. I'm replacing the rear skirts, so it's out of commission until I get it put back together. I'll post some pic's of that in another topic later.

No Pics, but I did load the camper today as it was dry, sunny and a crisp 30 F when I started the load.
There is a 60 % chance of snow tomorrow with rain by Wednesday. We will be using the camper over Christmas so I thought while it is nice out, get it loaded.
