It knows if you are sleeping; it knows when your awake

Last night while traveling down a very quiet country road I started to get sleepy. We were only 2 miles from our destination. I said to my wife "man am I ever getting sleepy all of a sudden". I no sooner got the words out of my mouth and a chime went off and the dic displayed an orange message something like "driver fatigued rest stop recommended". My wife and I wondered how it could know I was sleepy. We went a mile further and I said "man I can't keep my eyes open." The chime sounded again and this time the displayed message was red and said something like "driver fatigued. Pull over immediately and rest". I asked my wife if I was weaving or driving somehow erratic and she said she never noticed anything. She said "maybe it heard you say you're sleepy". I have no idea how but it knows when I am sleeping.

My sentiments exactly!
I just had to spend about $675 fixing my 1999 Dodge (new WSW motor, and fifth gear nut fell off inside the NV4500 tranny), on top of the $700 for new tires.
Sure, the maintenance is annoying, but not anywhere near as annoying as spending 50 to 60K on a new truck.
With a few new parts now and then, that old 1999 will likely live longer than I will!

I certainly can’t argue these points but the newer trucks are SO much nicer than even 10 years ago. And like my dad says, you only live once and are dead a long time!

Saying that I hope this truck will be my last.

But, that one isn't nearly as annoying as the Fusion's lane departure warning system. We shut it off, but I think there's some kind of settings relating to the key that keep turning it back on. Need to figure out how to permanently turn it off.

But, all that safety stuff helps save money on the car insurance, so that's good I guess.

Our 2014 Honda Accord has the lane departure warning thing, BUT, there is a button on the dash to turn it off, and it does not come back on unless you push the button again. We never turn it on.

We test drove a Subaru Legacy a few years ago, and it kept "beeping" at my wife. The salesman proudly pointed out the "lane keeping" system - but my wife, and myself, did not think she was driving in anyway that deserved beeping. We asked about turning it off, you can only mute it, and it turns back on everytime you restart the car. We did not like it. Salesman was confused why we didn't want it.

That and a few other reasons made us buy a Ford Fusion - which our model does not have lane keeping.

A friend of mine bought a loaded Chevy 2500 a couple years old, and the lane keeping system is in the seats of the truck - it vibrates the side of your butt depending on which way you are drifting. He says he likes it... (I think it is a Chevy, might be a Ram)

Maybe if I got more used to it, I might like that system. But in our very limited experience we did not like it.

Indirectly, they can. If you only have one hand on the wheel for too long, it assumes you are doing something with it.

Expect these systems to get more and more advanced as time goes on and expect the insurance company to encourage you with higher rates if you don't have the systems.

Cool tech... I know I push it sometimes when getting 3-4 hours of sleep and fishing all day on the coast and then driving home can be tough.
