Just had a brainstorm - how about a survey!

I just had a brainstorm when reading through the posts here.

So here's my question. We have two groups of folks on these forums: Those who exclusively blow out their water lines when winterizing and those who use the "pink stuff". For purposes of this survey, if you use a combination of blow and pink, you're still using the pink stuff.

Here's my curiosity: Is it because of the pink-stuff (taste, chemicals, or whatever) you do not drink from your own system?

So here's the survey question:

Do you "blow-out" or "pink-up" to winterize. And the second response, when you have de-winterized your system in the spring, do you drink or not drink from your camper?

If you do not drink from your own camper's water system, why?

Let's have fun folks, no jabbing each other, please?

I'll start:

Pink-up and drink. (I'm too old and too cheap to buy bottled water so I drink - but I did buy an in-line water filter this year too)

Blow, pink in traps only, don't drink, brush my teeth with tapwater. Fussy with tank source, clean chlorinated in the tank only, any clear wellwater or better allowed in the city lines.

Does anyone not use pink in the traps?

I drink both new-bottled and prefered recycled-bottles home water, wife and dog drink newly bottled. City water always meets gov regs, bottled has no regs.

Pink, drink sometimes. BUT, I don't use my holding tank, I'm always hooked up to a water source. I think in 10 years I stayed at a site that didn't have water maybe twice and used the tank, but did not drink. My camper typically stays on a farm in the woods with full hookups. I drink, wife refuses.

I run pink through and once done i drain it out of the system, set all bypasses back to normal use. No need to leave the pink in the lines all winter. Come spring we go camping and we don't drink we don't even drink water at home from the tap. I know i have issues.

Exclusively pink and drink.

Once blew the lines out over night at a campground simply because we knew freezing weather was coming overnight and we weren't going home.

Thank-you everyone for all your responses. I have a total of 91 responses, so here's how the numbers fall. I'll let the numbers and percentages speak for themselves to determine if you are in a majority or a minority.

I know this is really "unofficial". If folks were polled in the Southern States who neither blow or pink, the statistics would be vastly different. But we'll take what we can get!

One interesting note I did not count on, there are actually 4 groups, so I kept them broken down like that:

Those who:
pink
blow
pink and blow
do nothing

I have a .jpg image on Photobucket of the spreadsheet. It's too big to post here. You'll need to increase the image to read it. Click here.

Total: 91 respondents as of 9:00 am Nov 3:

The “Blow and Pink” group:
25 of 91 total “Blow and Pink” = 27.5%
Of the “Blow and Pink” group ony:
17 Drink = 68%
7 Do not Drink = 28%
1 was not indicated – dirink or no drink? – 4%

The “Blow” only group:
18 of 91 total = 19.8%
Of the “Blow” only group:
8 Drink = 44%
9 Do not Drink = 50%
1 was not indicated – drink or no drink? = 6%

The “Pink” only group:
40 of 91 total = 43.9%
Of the “Pink” only group:
23 Drink = 58%
16 Do not Drink = 40%
1 was not indicated – drink or no drink? = 2%

The do not “blow OR pink” group:
8 of 91 total = 8.8%
3 Drink = 38%
4 Do not Dirnk = 50%
1 was not indicated – drink or no drink? = 12%

Of the entire population posted:

51 of 91 total Drink = 56%
36 of 91 total Do not Dirnk = 40%
4 was not indicated – drink or no drink? = 4%

Blow, pink, blow. Bottled water for drinking, tank water: portable ice maker, shower, brush teeth, and wash dishes.

Flush/ sanitize in the spring. Plan on buying a filter this next season.
