No, I'm not ready to buy a new truck. Please keep in mind though, this is not my 1st camper. Our last camper was 30ft with no slides. This new one is only (roughly) 2K lbs heavier.
I doubt 2K lbs is going to make a severe difference in towing. I pulled our last camper up the some of the worse HWY's in the NC mountains. Including HWY 226 into Spruce Pine, 8% grades with switchbacks that you can't get a run at.
(Only those that have been up it know's how bad it is)
Truck did fantastic, engine/trans never got hot at all.
Oh, and I'm running 285's so my final ratio is closer to a 3:73 !!
My comment in the OP was more of excitement of buying a new camper, not to have everyone tell me to go buy a new truck!
Understood. However if you had put the above in the OP I would bet that there would be no comments about the truck. ;) You did, after all, solicit comments on how it might tow, which in and of itself suggests at least a modicum of concern from you yourself. ;)
Again - congratulations on the new trailer. I am sure we are all excited for you. Please do let us know how the extra 2000# works out after your first good towing trip.
