last min trip

so 3:00 on Friday my buddy texts me to tell me we are sponging the night at a local park (willowwood used to be a jelly stone) with the kids. Few quick calls to the wife and the park and its on. So leave work at 3:30 grab the trailer on the way home. By the time I get home my wife has some clothes food and supplies ready in totes like when we used to tent camp........ throw the family in and off we go. setup by 530 for an impromptu campout. By no means the nicest park and nowhere near as long as I would have like to go but hey ill take it. trying to post pics now but the upload site doesn't seem to be working. will post soon
  • really its not. only reason we went there is because I had nothing to do with location. its very open. would be great to do with a bunch of kids (mine are still too young to run with the pack) but I tend to prefer the provincial parks where possible. For a 1 or 2 nighter I would have went to wheatley anything more and im partial to the pinery. still had tons of fun though. 60 bucks sure was hard to swallow but it was worth it. It is significantly better than when it was a jellystone though. staff was great. im sure ill be back. Much better than Windsor campground (old koa) as far as privet go. rickm have you been to holiday beach since the renovations? heard good things but not sure I trust the sources hahaha?
  • I go by there every morning on the way to work....... it's not a Provincial Park, but it looks like a great weekend from time to time spot!
  • for sure. really wasn't bad at all. only wish I could keep my trailer at home but the 80km or so I had to travel to get it was well worth it for the safe free storage I get.
  • Impromptu camping trips are great. One/two nighters is why I love having the trailer at home, fully loaded and ready to go. Grab a bag of clothes, couple steaks, dogs, etc... from the freezer. OUTTA HERE.

Helps that the kids are grown, we can pack ourselves and run. Still, even when the kids were young, and the tent had to be set-up, we kept everything in totes so we could grap a tote, cooler, and bail out on a moment's notice.

Seems kinda hectic when trying to get there, but 15 minutes after setting up----vacation mode. We have several places within an hour of home, that are perfect for the weekend get-a-way.

I was impressed that the wife was willing. clearly buying a tt over a pop up was the right choice

My DW is willing to camp a lot more with our TT than when we had our popup. It is so much easier, and it works for our family.

It looks like you had a great time.
  • Some of our most memorable trips were last minute, unplanned.

Hot dogs are not healthy? Wow, next thing they'll be telling us beer and potato chips are unhealthy. :)

  • A quick last minute trip is better than no trip. :)
