Little trip to the west coast..

We were suppose to be in New Orleans for our summer trip but my older son was chosen as an Allstar baseball player and has qualified for Texas this month. We decided to just do our last part of our trip instead.
Ft Myers beach is insane during the 4th. You can watch fireworks from three different cities.

We left Thursday after work and arrived in time for a sun set picture. Its a 2:20 min drive from our house across Alligator Alley.

Next morning I sent the boys to the beach with a tent and chairs to get a good spot. I arrived 30 minutes later and found them at the other end of the beach.(I was a little upset) They were sipping water out of the caps and giggling. If you look close they had set up close to some teenage girls....I was so proud.

Ouch is right. My oldest pulled them all out himself. Tough kid.

Another great time at Redcoconuts. We got to meet the owners and spoke with them, such great people and family..We already have reservations for next 4th.

Packed up and headed home. This setup is great, I set the cruise at 80 and got 11.5mpg with a head wind. I could have dropped it to 70 and got better mpg but everyone was doing 80.

Everything you do in life has risk and the odds are very low that something will happen.

I was very impressed with the operation we used.

  • loulou57,
Count 4 photos down, the things sticking to the boys foot are the nasty sand spurs, found on and around the beaches all along the Atlantic Coast. They proliferate on Assateague Island, one of our favorite spots to TC and camp on the beach.
When the spurs are imbedded in the skin or clothing, if you wet your forefinger and thumb, they do not penetrate the skin of your digits as you pull them off. It really works!

Very nice report! Here's a tip that works well. With those x%@*^ sand spurs, lick your fingers when pulling them off, no mo pain.

He had to use needle nose pliers to get them out of his foot. It was a good thing the girls from next to us came over to offer help. No tears at all..I was in shock watching him pull them out.

Yes, the park is cramped but so worth it. My TC is trashed with white powder sand.
  • It is nice to see people camp right on the beach. Looks a little to crowded for us but it is what it is, give up one thing for another.
    What are sand spurs?
Sounds and looks like you had a great weekend.

  • Great pics. We have been to Red Coconut many times but only in winter and absolutely love it there. It is a happening place and lots of really friendly people and of course 'on the beach'. We also like to take side trips to Lover's Key State Park. Really nice beach there as well.
