Somewhere in Long Island right now Irv Gordon is reading this and laughing to himself.
Mr. Gordon has a phenomenal achievement and has driven 3,000,000 (Yes, 3 Million!) miles in the same car - a shiny, red 1966 Volvo P1800. Gordon, a 74-year-old retired science teacher from Patchogue, N.Y., holds the Guinness Book of World Records recognition for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle, and has driven over 3 million miles in his shiny red Volvo.
So take that Ford! ;)
Would sure like to see the list of maintenance & repairs performed on that 66 Volvo over the years.
Our 2007 XC90 V8 is a blast to drive but I'm pretty disappointed that at just over 80,000mi I have a recurring CEL (fuel pressure sensor, on the to-do list), front struts that are absolutely, 100% shot (noisy ride, horrible tire wear), and strange-acting power windows (passenger side has a mind of its own).
We love the car but I'm used to Land Cruisers that might require a non-maintenance repair every 150,000mi or so. Grrrr.
Math dictates that if I hit 3 million miles on this Volvo, I will have replaced the front struts about 38 times and dealt with over 3 dozen CELs.
