looking at a 2001 Lance 1030

thanks for the replies. The lady is asking $5000 so the price seems about right. She is carying it on a 94 chevy 2500 with air bags. With the weight of the camper I'll probably have to upgrade to one ton truck before going on a 4000 miles out West trip.
The inside of the camper looks like new. The outside has the few small dents from hail but overall is nice too. We measured the bed with of the camper and th truck. The plastic bedliner in the truck will have to come out before the camper goes in. Also, I'll have to get some foam board to raise the camper floor over the 5th wheel rails in the truck.
She is throwing in happi-jacks and front strut brackets and struts with the sale.

The roof is a one piece aluminum sheet and will outlast even you and if you keep the openings items caulked properly, you will never see a leak unless something punctures a hole thru the aluminum. The wing's softness is very easy to repair by replacing the wood with marine type plywood that's been weather sealed/coated well and thoroughly dried before putting behind the aluminum or filon skin.

The Lance 1030 is a very nice TC about 11' long and will be a VERY heavy load as optioned on your 1995 Dodge chassis. Make sure your tires can handle the weight also. Something else to remember is that placing a TC over the top and behind the cab will reflect and intensify the loud aggravating ear splitting noise of the old Cummins. You will have to be the judge!

With a listed dry weight of 2,618 lbs. plus any optional equipment, ie.,: the on-board Generac 3.4 LP generator (approximately 100 lbs.), solar panel, a/c(??), awning(s)(??), the weight will add up fast. Then add another 500-800 ready to camp and you are in the realm of 3,500 lbs., all of which sits in the bed of the truck. Check your truck's door sticker for GVWR.

There have been some posts regarding repair of the wings over the years. If a search doesn't turn anything up, perhaps another member can provide additional info. I'm not a fan of Generac's LP High Impact generators. Mine was worked on twice while under warranty and is still problematic. Now discontinued, it's hard to find a competent Generac tech that knows his stuff. Independents give you a light chuckle and send you on your way. The LP genny is convenient for short runs. If you need ac at night for dry-camping, you'd better park next to a refill station.

I have the 2000 1010 model and plan to have it for many years. Not sure of the difference between the 1010 & the 1030 but for the Lance year and the other newer brands I looked at, Lance was superior on quality. $5400 for mine and no genny.
