Looking at a 2008 F250 6.4l

I am looking at a 2008 F250 King Ranch with 90k miles that is stock and will get a 3 year bumper to bumper Ford warranty. I know these engines had issues with front covers, valvetrain, and making oil (anything else?). I was only going to keep it a few years that I need it under warranty so any issues would be fixed wouldn't cost me more than the deductible. Many say these have to be deleted for durability reasons but because of the warranty I can't do that. How well (or bad) do these run stock if it's driven regularly, the maintenance is kept up, fuel kept clean and proper (Ford) parts are used?

I tried to search for past threads but nothing comes up with I enter 6.4l or 6.4 in the search box.

    Might work if you can buy it at rock bottom price, otherwise you stand to loose big in 3 years when you try to unload it.

    I think you know better. A bargain priced bad truck is still a bad truck!
    Pass... why go thru the potential headache....Because it's a bargain? Really?

    Some warranties have many exclusions, often calling the needed repair "normal wear". Expensive things like the HPOP for instance. Admittedly most of my info is related to the 6.0 engine but the warranty did not produce the expected financial relief.

    Downtime is another variable-how long before repairs are made? Did you have a good mechanic?

    I'm thinking you are leaning too heavily on the power of that warranty. I would look for people who have had a good Ford Warranty experience before jumping in on that deal.

    I tossed the idea of a 6.0 or 6.4 Ford around too because you can get them for so cheap, but cheap doesn't make it a good deal. I would pass if I were you. Or at least do a bunch of research and be proactive about bulletproofing it (to the degree you can - they're still problematic).

    If you want more specific information, hop over to 6.4 liter forum and poke around there. Lots of owners with good/bad opinions along with fixes for common problems.

    Fish does not recommend any dpf equipped diesel without def including the first gen 6.7 cummins which was known to have problems.

    I don't know about the 08 . My Dad has a 2010 6.4 with 150,000 miles lots of towing and its been great.
