Magone Lake, Oregon
A few pictures from our camping adventures a week ago that I haven't had time to post yet. We went to Magone Lake which is about 10 or so miles north of John Day, Oregon on the map. I figured this late in the season it would be a pretty empty campground but I forgot about elk season. There were still plenty of camp spots and we did have the lake pretty much to ourselves since most of the people there weren't fishing.
Loaded up just before leaving town and for some reason this particular picture makes my truck look smaller than usual to me. Those 1150's are one big camper.
The campground was very nice. Paved road and crushed gravel parking areas. Lots of trees for shade even though this time of year it wasn't very warm.
The lake has a hiking, biking trail all the way around it. We rode it twice in opposite directions just to make sure we liked it. It also has a couple boat docs, a boat ramp, a beach/picnic area with changing rooms and this elevated picnic table hanging over the lake.
We caught several fish but were only able to get one in the boat. Guess I need to invest in a net so my daughter can touch more fish (she hates that :B). She loves fishing but won't touch them anymore. Not sure what happened because several years ago she liked holding them. Teenagers!
After mountain biking around the lake, fishing and exploring we headed back for some supper.
And a campfire.
The next day we fished some more and I let the kids drive the boat around so I could enjoy some reel time.
The worms weren't working all that great so we trolled around the lake with these lures I got from a fellow TC member on here TCINTN. We forgot what they were called one day so we started calling them Tennessee jigglers because that's where he was from. They are called trout magnet's and they work pretty well if you jig them at just the right pace.
