Mattress size?

Why does it seem most mfg's state "queen bed" when their only 74" length? I'm 6'2" and 74" is a non starter. Frustrating!!!
DW and I are searching for a rear living room, walk around N/S Queen. With at least 76" ceiling height. 17 to 20 foot class, under 4000 lb.
Does something like this even exist? No slide needed. Just a basic couples set-up. Tow unit is a V6 Toyota 4Runner, 5000 lb rated tow capacity.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Our 2014 Coachmen Freedom Express 192RBS has a short queen which I've extended to a full 80" but the current model year of this same trailer now has a full 80" long bed. It does have a shallow sofa slide and typically weighs ~ 4500 lbs loaded and ready to camp. Pics are in my gallery if you're interested.
  • Seems like the only Freedom Express with a rear living room is the 28.1SE, way to big/heavy. Nice layout though. Coachman does show 80" beds on their floorplans, only one I've come across so far.
    Cheers.

Regardless of bed size I doubt you'll find a true rear living room floor plan in any sub 20' trailer ... a few with a dinette on side of the trailer with a sofa opposite, both at the rear, but not with dual recliners as you seem to be looking for.

FWIW, Coachmen has managed to extend the length of the bed to a full 80" without extending the total length of the trailer at all, the trick being to modify the profile of the front wall to accommodate the longer bed. Current models also have a vent over the main cabin, unlike my 2014 which doesn't.
  • I was enthusiastically hopeful regarding the Keystone Summerland 2020QB. 22 ft, rear dinette, non slide, 4200 lb. But bed is a midget Queen. Not 80". I was in a 2016 Prolite Evasion today. Rear couch with windows, long enough for me 76". Very nicely appointed. 1890 lb dry. There is a Jay Lite 17R but again tall customers don't count :( "She who must be obeyed" discovered the Rockwood Hard Side pop-ups, and guess what, they have honest 80" beds, but a totally different approach to trailering, ie no stealth camping, putting it up is a little obvious.
The Coachman 17RD has the plan I like but 74" bed.
We're not actually looking for the rear lazy boy style, the rear dinette layout is our preferred choice, I like the extra light, and the out the back view when you back the trailer into its site, gotta love them ocean views!

If you like this particular model so much why not just extend the bed platform a few inches so the length is suitable to your liking. I've done it myself and it's made a world of difference. :)
  • Considering the "wants" you have in a travel trailer, the real limits you are going to bump into here is the tow vehicle of choice.

I have to crouch down in the shower, ceiling brushes my head, ac bangs on head. For $20,000 CDN I do not want any issues. Its also on the heavy side for a 5000lb tow capacity 4Runner. Theres hundreds of choices out there, I'm patient.
Main reason for switching to a trailer from a truck camper is my wifes mobility issues, camper is 6 steps up from ground, and climbing in and out of the overcab bed for her nightly pee routine. Dog is aged with arthritis, and lifting it into and out of camper is hazardous when its hurting. Truck is a regular cab, doing multi hours with the dog can get odiferous to put it politley.
I also like the idea of leaving the trailer at the site while we tour around, not something easily done with a TC.

None of which has anything to do with the length of the bed. First you said you were "enthusiastically hopeful" about this particular trailer, now you're inventing another list of reasons it isn't suitable. Seems bed length is the least of your problems ...confusing to say the least. :R

Toyota 4Runner SR5, 5000lb tow rating. DW prefers this vehicle due to seat and ride comfort, plus my truck is a regular cab, not so nice on a long trip with a 65lb dog.
Prolite trailers come in under 3000lb (17 to 20ft) with nice features, just a bit premium priced.
Might even go PUP, they have 80" beds, how hard is it for a TT to carry the same? I'm coming across as picky about the mattress, but for the price of these things, how difficult is it to put a 76 to 80 incher in? Probably an extra $30 to the builder.
Its all good, I get to hang out in this forum, learning lots of neat stuff :)

On the web page the Summerland looked like an ideal choice. 1:45 hr drive later, arrive at the dealer, go inside the trailer and low ceiling, short bed etc. Bit of a let down. They had other trailers with some thing called a "barrel roof" very roomy, lots of head height, even had domed skylights over the shower so good head room. But none of these had rear dinette/living room layout. There are several 17 foot trailers with rear dinettes, their beds go east/west with some sort of head board storage cabinet, too short for me. I'm deliberately limiting myself to SUV appropriate trailers. My Dodge would pull any thing almost, but its not the way we've chosen to go. A big trailer would be impossible to get back past my garage, just the way the property is layed out.
