I posted a question a few days ago about where you would get a new mattress for a camper. Several nice people replied. One gentleman said he got a memory foam at Walmart. Is that just a topper that you put on your existing mattress? Or is a 3 inch one good enough that you use only it? some other folks also replied saying they used some kind of topper, so I would have the same question for them.

My big concern is getting a new mattress in the bedroom area. Seems like it would have to be bent in half to fit in. Is this a real concern, and if it is, what do you do?

What I did, was buy a new queen-size mattress for the house, and put my old full-size mattress in the camper. The mattress was far from used up, but I wanted a bigger bed at home.

Only problem with the "new" camper mattress is it's thicker, 9" vs. 6", and it took away a lot of clearance in the cabover. I hit my head on the ceiling frequently, and I lost my blanket and pillow storage between the bed and roof when the camper is lowered.

I put an 8" thick, queen size Sleep Science memory foam mattress in our TC. One of the best upgrades I made to our camper.

We bought this one and really like it. We have a Arctic Fox 1150 and it fits perfect in the cabover. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0050JL384/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

+1 on the Spa Sensations from Walmart.com. We have been pleased with it.

Our mattress was about three inches shorter than the replacement. I removed the fabric cover, cut the foam with an electric turkey knife and replaced the cover.

We have a Tempur-pedic in the house. The Spa Sensations is slightly firmer, but I would consider them interchangeable.

The mattress we bought is a Spa Sensation. It isn't a topper, it's a mattress. The local Walmart didn't carry them in stock so we ordered it and picked it up at the store.

When you get it, it's compressed and rolled into about an 18" x 18" x 40" box. You just take it out of the box and put it where you want it and then remove the bag it's in. It will "grow" into a mattress quickly. We let it completely expand and air out for a day. No creases, folds, or wrinkles.

I can fold and remove it from the TC without the wife's help. Ours is the 6" Full so it isn't as heavy as others.

We put in a regular queen posturepedic. I took the mattress store up on their free delivery, installation, and old mattress removal offer. My total effort was saying "it goes there". The delivery guys dealt with everything else.

I purchased the Spa Sensations 6 inch memory foam mattress from Walmart. They received good reviews and are available in different thicknesses and bed sizes. Ours is a queen size and works very well.
