I am looking at buying a newer possibly f250 to replace my 2006 f150.By the first look at the prices I will probably stay under a 2015 model.There are so many engine choices that keep changing.One truck of interest has a 6.2 gas engine .Does anyone have experience with this motor or any others I should stay away from in the 2010-2015 range.Thank you for you input.

Only thing I'll toss in if you buy 3/4 ton with diesel you're payload will be about the same as your 150. You have to buy a gas 250 to see a significant jump in payload from a 150.

Do you need more payload than what you have now? What are you trying to improve with a newer truck?The 6.2L gas motor is a decent and reliable motor, but it does rev to make power, while the EcoBoost 3.5L is simply more civilized, and makes more low-end torque. But of course that means sticking with an F150.That said, the 6.2L will certainly be a power upgrade from what you have now.I personally would not want to own a first generation 6.7L diesel. They are generally reliable but it's $$$ if you lose the high-pressure fuel pump. Stay FAR FAR AWAY from any 6.4L diesel trucks, unless you're trying to make some beer money at the scrap yard!

I don't own one but I have seen almost entirely good comments on the 6.2. My impression is that they burn a little more fuel and don't perform quite as well as the 3.5 Ecoboost that I have but last a long time with very little trouble. Like most naturally aspirated gas burners they do need to rev to get a lot of power.

Guy I camp with and I have known for 22 plus years (Navy together) Has a 2014 he is at about 80,000 miles right not. Got into the 2014 F350 6.2 from a 2004 F150 5.4.Truck has been really good, brakes, tires, one vibration where they fixed something in the front and one exhaust manifold gasket under warratny. He tows a 9000lbs Grand Design with it. I would say he tows around 3000 miles a year and daily drives it. He loves it. It has been a rock solid truck. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

librty, I run the 4.30 diffy 2WD short box crew cab. I normally tow back and forth from central IL thru the Smokies to just south of Myrtle beach. I have an aux tank so penciling out the mileage is not my way to go. The puter never shows less than 8.7. I have picked up a helacious tail wind and hit the nines. :B

But those big jet stream tail winds are hard to come by.

3.73s towed 10-14k lbs flatbed no problem near sea level, but used the whole tachometer unless I was poking around holding up traffic.
I'd absolutely recommend 4.30s for towing duty if you have the choice.

Yeah my experience with them empty as I have not towed with one but have a few buddies that do but the 4.30s def got better mileage on the daily commute with all the stop and go it doesn't take as much to get it going. Towing mpgs for my buddies seem to be all over the place from 6 to 10 towing larger travel trailers. Was just curious what he was experiencing withe the 5th.

The 6.2 gets the same mileage as any HD gasser and that is subjective based on, well, all the factors that go into mileage.
3.73 6.2's both of em averaged 13+ mpg commuting/hiway/city mix.
Towing 10k+ or high profile, mileage was 8+mpg I'd say.

Dave just curious what gear ratio you have the 3.73 or 430's and what kind of mileage you get towing the 10k fiver with it.

The 6.2L is strong and reliable. 6.2L offers a lot more horsepower and torque than what you have now as well as 2 extra gears you will feel when towing. I recommend the 4.xx axle ratio over 3.73. Try to find something with a bigger gas tank. I am not familiar enough to know if that means getting the long bed or it is was a stand alone option or standard.

We have several 6.2L trucks at my work from MY 2011 and up that get worked very hard and they have all been bulletproof workhorses. I wouldn't hesitate whatsoever to buy one.

The 6.2L has shown fewer high mileage issue than the old 5.4L. Slightly better mileage than the 6.8L V10.

The 6.2 is proven to be a reliable engine.

I have a 6.2 and am very happy with it except for the fuel consumption but I knew that going in. I pull a 10,000 gvwr 5th wheel with it and it does fine but I haven't had it in the Rockies.

6.2 drivetrain is pretty bulletproof in that year range that I have experience with. We ran alot of those trucks and I had a 2012 and 2015 model. Both were great.
