Need help on what sealant to use!

On my super slide where the "flexible fiberglass" side meets the trim piece at the very bottom, I have a very small but definite gap that's needs some good sealant, to keep any more water from soaking up into the trailers carpet.
I have attempted once to use "ProflexRV" sealant by Geoflex, but it simply did not hold. I literally peeled it off by hand tonight.
Granted, when I applied it the first time, I re-used the tube from weeks prior and it wasn't like it was a brand new tube.
SO, what do you guys recommend for this application? Where fiberglass meets plastic trim piece?
Thanks!
  • See my post in this thread, I just replaced my entire slideout floor because of this water damage. If your carpet is wet you have mold also, and sealing that area now is like locking the barn after the horse has run away.

More important than sealing that area is adding a drip edge so water can't run around that trim and soak into the floor.
  • If the wood is holding a bit of moisture, urethane sealants are a good choice as urethane uses moisture to cure and you will get a good bond.
    3M marine adhesive 5200 is a polyurethane sealant/adhesive.

Personally I like the 3M Marine Sealants/Adhesives and the correct one would be the 4000UV for continuously exposed areas since it is UV protected. I have also used the 5200 in a couple of areas since I can get the small tube at HD at a reasonable cost. Haven't tired to remove any of that yet, but it's only as a seondary surface sealant, becuase using it under something is like using Epoxy and you will never be able to remove whatever you used it for w/o destroying something.

  • Sounds like some one used silicone.

Nothing, not even silicone, will stick until all residue has been removed using mineral spirits or denatured alcohol.

On a good clean surface Proflex or Dicor Non-Self Leveling
  • Dicor for verticle or Proflex. I have tried Proflex and was really disappointed, but it does get a lot of positive comments.
