With some C-channel steel from Home Depot I mounted my spare so it is right on top of the bumper vs hanging way out to the rear like the typical oem mount. Tire is now out of the way for bikes or a rack. Imagine the above pic with the tire between the rear wall and the carrier.

BTW be careful what you bolt onto the bumper.

(I tried that. There wasn't enough clearance between the cage and the back wall of the trailer. If you could get a longer shaft carrier, there might be enough room. I did try that).

I took the spare tire and started carrying it in the bed of the pick-up truck. Works OK for me. Of course, I have to remember to grab the spare tire whenever we go anywhere. So I have a pattern down now. Blue tote goes in the bed, next is the spare tire.

FYI: My bumper is rated to carry 600 pounds. There's a label on it for the factory installed hitch that's welded and reinforced under it. I'm not carrying anything near that heavy. Those two boxes are my sewer hoses and water hoses and a great space to put wet outside carpets when we get caught in rain.

Also, I get the carrier and cage at TSC (Tractor Supply Company).

I took a spare tire holder off of a small truck, and mounted it under the fifth wheel.

I think this is the best idea...but I guess you could move the tire over and install a rack of some kind to carry you stuff...

But...DISCLAIMER--I doubt your bumper will support it without some major strengthening and modification.

This is not mine:

I have seen a few people make a bracket that extends off the A FRAME in the front of the trailer.

I don't remember the name but there are a couple of manufacturers that sell kits for tire mounts under the trailer. Google something like spare tires for trailers and see what comes up. I have looked at some of them a long while back and don't remember them being all that expensive.
