Need to replace our microwave

We need to replace the microwave in our Bigfoot 15C9.5 TC. We have already replaced the one that came from the factory and now the keypad is acting up on the replacement. It has barely been used but out of warranty. The cabinet opening for the microwave is 19"W x 11.5"H x 18"D. The one we would like to get states that it needs 4" of clearance on the sides, back and top so it would not work in our cabinet. The ones we are looking at are generally .7 cu ft and around 700 watts.

We are tired of the ones with keypads that you press since that seems to be the weak spot we have encountered. I'm curious what model and brands you fellow truck campers are using and if they have been durable.

Thanks for any replies.
  • Check thrift stores. They are usually under $35 and some as cheap as $25. They still make the ones that have a dial timer on them. No key pad.

    do a search on Amazon for "dial microwave"

    Several pop right up with just that;

  • Is your cabinet a box with a frame front? Doesn't that give you an offset to the inside of the actual cabinet? If you are looking at none button type is this a commercial style with twist knobs...if so I think the comm style requires more space around it, but then they are assuming it will be in constant use...not home style use...constant means running for an hour straight each day at each meal...or more...there is no way you are going to do that!

    So what micro you looking at?
  • We removed the one that came in our 2016 NL and I would be willing to sell it. I'll get specifics if you're interested - just let me know.
  • Only one we ever had to replace was in TT. When we added one to TC just went size that fit opening with vent space around it and cheapest, $40-60 Wally World no name brand, 700w and will replace it with same when it dies if we don't first.
  • You just had bad luck. When we had to replace ours we picked up one that would fit the space allotted. I don't even remember the brand. It has a button panel and it gets used a lot. It has worked perfectly for six years now.
  • Anything that fits the space. Amazon, Walmart etc.

    I would lean towards "Sharp" if it were me. I've had good luck with them over the years.
