Needing an extra step

We finally have the trailer in the driveway and I realize the bottom step is a little high for me. When we went to see it at the other person's house it was parked next to a curb so I didn't realize the space. Is there a way to add a step to the bottom step that will still fold up. I have been using a little step stool at the bottom but I would rather it be all one. Any ideas??

I think I actually have one of those steps in my basement. That would work better than the step stool I am using which is narrow and doesn't feel secure for me to be climbing on it and since I already have a knee and hip replacement I don't need any missteps. Thank you for all your suggestions.

Best and cheapest I've seen is the the aerobic step that you can get in the exercise section at Walmart. It is very solid, wide, adjustable, and cheaper than bought "RV" steps.

Ditto on this....works well!

Guy I used to camp with fabricated one for me that fits over the bottom step and is held there by a lip at the back of the step. I don't have any pictures of it, but any welder could probably make one. Really works well, and its very portable.

We bought the aerobic steps, too, but found them at the local Sally store for $15. I like them because they are wide and have incremental adjustment in height. Still looking at garage sales for a second set to use at the bedroom door.

After raising the 5er our bottom step seemed a bit high. I just made a 2x4 frame with a plywood top and some indoor/outdoor carpeting and walla. BUT is doesn't fold up, sorry.

After going full time I started having knee problems. Turns out it was from the short RV step you have to turn your foot to the side when you step out.

I added the step stool but the second step is the same to narrow to step straight out on it. I've tried everything and this is what I finally found to work with an RV....cinder blocks!

I ended up going to the box store and getting cinder blocks. They line up just perfectly. WHAT a difference. Within a week both my knees where back to normal. I don't leave home without them.

Here is the cinder blocks that line up perfectly with the step stool allowing the second step to be wide enough to step on straight forward no twisting your foot as you step off.

When I stay any longer than 2 weeks in a CG I add a second step of the flat 1/2 cinder blocks. The white tape is so I can see the step off at night. Room for my foot to land straight no matter how I leave the RV!

At a buck apiece I just leave them at the CG when I move on. Well worth the $$ not to have my knees all swollen and avoid costly surgery!! Just wished I figured this all out earlier in my RV'ing! :C

We like the aluminum one from Camping World. It's expensive but very sturdy and slip resistant. Best thing we ever bought! http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/aluminum-folding-step/38293

We use a folding step stool. It doesn't happen enough in the real world to warrant the trouble/expense of another step.

We sometimes need an extra step- but not always. So the step stool works for us.

I use the portable step, right now I'm 3 inchs high on the passenger side, but what happens if you get to a place where you need to raise the drivers side with the extended set of step it may not even open all the way out ?

Do you know if I can just add a step to the existing steps or do I need to buy the three step one?
