New guy new (used camper)

Been watching here for awhile thought I should join up.
Am picking up my first hard side camper this weekend 2000 S&S 8.5.
Needs a little work but looks sound. Have been using a 1983 FWC keystone since about 1990 and have about worn it out.
Any ideas for what to look out for or to do with this new camper would be welcome.
I will be putting it on a 2015 f350 srw with airbags ,camper and tow package. I believe this should be good.

Thanks!
  • As with any used camper, first things first, check for any leaks in the camper itself, and secondly, make sure all appliances are in good working order. Secondly, make sure you have solid tie down points, which I am sure you do since this is not your first camper. Go out and enjoy! The best way to learn all about your camper is to go out and use it.

  • As with any RV. Leaks and tires are your first concern. Make sure they are under control.
RV tires usually age out before they wear out.
As poriggity said, take it out and use it.
    Enjoy your travels.
  • Hidden water damage, rot, is what I would be looking for. Visually ,stains, bubbling of exterior siding, soft spots in roof. Also, musty smells inside. Does everything work? Stove, fridge ,plumbing? Its 15 years old , so owner maintaince over the years is important. Did he recaulk periodically?
Good luck, hope you have a great camping season this summer.
