New idea for tiedowns?

I am not sure of the exact name. But they are short. And only one set of springs. I was going to add the tensioners onto the front, nonspring set.

Some variables here but 5" sounds like a lot of travel, also most camper tensioner when adjusted run about #300. I'm assuming the fastguns being used are the add on shorties? Derringer? Just curious, unaware of fastgun with no spring.

Our original set of torklifts tie downs used the chain & manual turnbuckle, spring was in a lil 3" can bolted to mount arms. Our previous Happi jacks used the tubular turnbuckles with spring inside, like current full length Fastguns. Using the fastguns, the spring load 'cans' are removed from mount arms.

SO I would gather that having springs on all four corners will be OK. The other part of my question is whether anyone has used the barbwire tensioners sold at farm and feed stores. They have a rating of 150pounds per inch/ They have about 5 inches of take up. I think that would allow for a lot of bounce while off roading.

Those are called basic springloads, you could use the long happijac non spring, pad only turnbuckles with them and no chain. I bet you could get some cheap or free , I have some (2) you could have as a matter of fact hanging in my garage
Torklift made anchorguard turnbuckles that were for the happijac system also , short front spring , rear long padded
Now they make Fastguns long range ,and fastgun 45`s for happijac mts both springloaded. Or spring load xl`s with or without derringer`s, I dont think they ever made fastguns that didnt have springs

Happijac makes turnbuckle sets that include front short w/ spring and long rear w/ pad . And they make quickloads, front short, rear long

Torklift has been smart enough to make products for happijac anchor systems , Not so for happijac making products for torklift systems

Ive had fastguns and regretably sold them ,when I thought I wasent going to have a TC for awile again. The when I got one (TC) again and got a happijac set of turnbuckles with it and had frame mt torklifts on my truck I bought one set (2)torklift springload xl`s and a set of derringers (4) , I use the Torklift springload xl`s w/ derringers on the front and the happijac short body W / spring with longer stainless allthread and derringers on the rear . So all four are spring loadedand fast gun style, I also bought locks for them
That saved me a couple hundred dollars

But IMHO you shouldnt use pad only turn buckles of any style on frame mount truck anchor systems of any kind , you might rip out the camper eye when your truck bed flexes

Useing happijac front bed mts Ive ripped the spot welds on my truck bed ,and bent my bumper up closer to the rear quarter of my truck doing light 4x4ing , The only part of the happijac bed mt system I like is the camper centering bumpers

Anyway Capt Eddie if you could find some basic spring loads on craigs list they might work well to mount to the flat bed , they have horizontal bolting

Dave, I have seen those but I don't think they have made them like that for awhile. Just going by what the Tork web site says. As far as I am concerned the whole system is worthy of being called a tie down.

There still seems to be some confusion so I'll take a stab. :)

First off a definition: "Torklift mount" the part that attaches to the frame including the removable insert.

The Fastguns come in two lengths and connect between the "Torklift mount" and the tie down points on the camper. The short Fastgun most likely will require a short chain or similar connection unless connecting to the front Happijac mount.

I have four of the long (and adjustable) Fastguns. All have built in spring tensioners as do all Fastguns per Torklifts web site.

OP are you sure you have two Fastguns without spring tensioners or something similar that look like Fastguns? I suppose its possible the spring mechanism has failed in those two.

Raften, I have spring loaded eyes on my torklift mount. It is an integral part of the tie down. It isn't a loose piece like a turnbuckle and chain.

Just to clear something up in case someone new is confused. Torklift tie downs do not have springs. The springs come into the picture in what Torklift calls turn buckles. The turn buckles attach to the tie downs and include a simple spring system all the way up to Fast Gun systems.

I know, picky but it might clear things up for someone.

It all has to do with

Torklift doesnt make non frame mt truck ties, so they only have springs in all there camper to truck tiedowns

Happijac only has " framemtounts "in front, bumper buttons in rear, bumpers flex , especially Fords

Even Torklift has told me dont use non spring loaded ties on any truck frame mt
