New TC Rally for Tennessee in 2014

I am very interested in starting a new Truck Camper Rally in Tennessee to start in 2014. I would like to try to have some feedback to see if this would work and how many attendees that would be interested in coming.

I would like to do this in the Gatlinburg area, which is at the northern edge of the Great Smoky Mtns National Park. Lots of things to do in the area and the time of the year has not been finalized yet.

Welcome - I hope you are able to join us. The more the merrier- we aren't TC snobs... Just people who love camping and love our TC's. I haven't met anyone personally yet, but they all seem like good eggs based on what I've read! ๐Ÿ™‚

Come on down and enjoy the weekend. The only requirement is that you bring good weather with you - LOL! That's a must. My family has been trying to save some of these nice NY fall days in order to bring them down with us next month. Fingers crossed that our weather prayers are answered in Nov.

Plenty of people to help out if you get stuck on something - maybe more opinions than 'ya might want!

I have what may seem to be a silly/odd favor to ask of the rally attendees.

My best friend's fiance was diagnosed with cancer in February. They wanted to camp etc. so he bought a small toy hauler to use for his bucket list ... which included a fall trip to the Smokies. When it seemed the end was near, he gave her the camper and truck. Things turned bad quickly and they were not able to make the trip. He died this past Saturday.

She knows all the ends and outs of the camper, but he never let her drive. I proposed to her that she and I take a trip to the Smokies in his honor and I will teach her to tow a trailer. I wanted to attend the TC Rally anyway and thought maybe we could combine. My husband will not be able to come.

I just wanted to see if we show up and run into something we can't handle if we could call on any of you seasoned campers to lend a hand. I don't anticipate that happening, but I would feel better knowing we had a friendly safety net. I want to make this trip special for her and just trying to smooth the way. Neither of us are the helpless type and I don't forsee any problems. Can we join the fun without being in a TC??? Anyone attending that could give us advice on what to see in the area?

'preciate it!

We finally got to use our TC somewhere other than our driveway (LOL!) and had a great time. If you are ever in Western NC, I highly recommend camping at Black Forest Family Camping Resort in Cedar Mtn (just above Brevard) near Dupont State Forest. Dupont is worth seeing - great hiking and bike trails and incredible waterfalls. Black Forest is a great campground too. You just can't go in and look around - they highly value their campers' safety and privacy. Anyway, we got to camp the last two weekends in a row there and had wonderful fall weather one weekend and winter the next, so it was a great test of our TC. We are in the "mod" mode now - funny how you see how things can be better constantly. We REALLY want to join you all for the TC Rally, but the annual church BBQ is a huge deal here. We would love to pick all your brains about your TCs and your experiences and sit around the campfire. We know you're going to have a terrific time and we wish you the best weather ever. Take pictures and post them for the rest of us.

Driftwood132, it's unlikely that the campground will fill up but if they do we can always double up on a site. BTW, we've been thru Sylva many times as my folks had some land over past Cullowhee. Go Catamounts!

I am planning on attending but I'm not going to make reservations. Reason being if I can't make it due to job or something else nothing lost. I'm only 40 minutes away so I can go home if I can't find a place to stay. Hope to see many truck campers!

Just 47 days to go! We've got 10 coming to the TC "family" gathering so far. No big organized events ... just a chance to meet, see each other's rigs, compare mods, swap a few stories, share some vittles, etc. I know of one attendee who is "hunting" up something to share at the potluck supper. I think I'll bring some BBQ from the local joint that cooks it up fresh each day and closes when that's sold. Now who'd want to miss out on all that :W

Hi trailgranny50! Do stop in and join in on the gathering if you can. And drop me a PM if you're interested in visiting other sites if you'll be traveling through middle TN and like some local info.

Oh, and the moderator has made the TN Truck Camper Gathering thread a sticky at the top of the Rallies, Shows, and Gatherings forum. Unlike some other stickies you can still reply though.

Might work for us as we're heading to Georgia in November anyway and Tennessee isn't that far out if the way from our route from Oklahoma. Interesting.

We're up to 8 attendees! The gathering's still two months away so you've got time to join us. I've asked the moderator on the Rallies, Shows, & Gatherings forum to pin the thread at the top. Until then you'll either need to use the link above or you'll have to click on "Last 12 months" at the bottom of the 1st page then go to the second page as it doesn't show up if you go straight to the 2nd page.
