Ok folks - Sorry if this is a frivolous post... I'm sooooooooo excited I had to share. Most of my friends and coworkers just kind of look at me odd when I get into RVs and Trucks. :)Getting ready to head out in a couple of hours to pick up my new to me 2010 F250. (Short Box, SuperCab, 5.4L, 3.73 gear, 15K Miles on the clock.) I know it's not the most stout engine/gear combo out there by any means. I know it will be a very thirsty beast. I know it will not win any races to 70MPH... But I do know it will very easily deal with any of the Campers we are looking at getting.I just happened to look online last Friday and saw it at a local dealer. Could not believe the price they had it listed at, called/checked it out to see if it had been in a rollover accident or something LOL... Saturday we went and drove it with the DW and kids (to make sure they will fit for a few years at least.) Pulled the trigger this morning.It's maybe not the best possible TV in the world but it will sure fit the bill for now and it will make our dream of getting a camper later in the summer a possible thing instead of a pipe dream. I never thought I'd find the truck I needed to fit both the dream and the budget.So anyway. There it is heh. Now I just need a camper! The DW absolutely refuses to consider just camping back in the truck bed under the topper - LOL. I just wonder if I should pick a name, or let the kids pick a name, or go without...

And hey, no need to apologize for it not being a big, bad diesel dually; as you stated yourself, for your plans, it'll fit the bill nicely and that is really all that matters.Food for thought: I have a crew cab 4x4 5.4L F250 (2008) and I re-geared to 4.30 from 3.73 and the difference was pretty remarkable with no loss of MPG whatsoever (yes, hand calculated and I was surprised myself). Cost was around $1700 for both axles. Having said that, with 3.73s you're rated to tow (IIRC) around 9,200lb so if your plans don't approach that type of weight it would probably be overkill (deeper gears get you about 2,000lb more tow rating). I mainly re-geared due to the fact that living in Phoenix, almost any direction I travel (except for south) involves nasty long mountain climbs.I think you'll enjoy the feel of the Super Duty chassis; it is a very sturdy platform and the 5.4L, while it won't reach the summit first very often, is a very reliable and proven motor.Again, congrats!

I'm not so sure about kids naming your RV. In "RV" the movie, the kids named the motor home "rolling turd" .... and it stuck through the entire movie ... Just a word of warning ... kids don't always think like adults do!Yes, name it! But for the sake of your marriage, better name it a male name so the wife won't get jealous when you spend more time in the camper Monday through Thursday than you do with her! :)

Hey, I liked the big rolling turd! and our GPS will always be LOLA! If it makes memories with the kids, go for it! I guarantee they will remember it and be telling their kids about it ad nauseum.

Absolutely name it!!!! Kids and I named our TV "Turk"! Hence the post name. Enjoy the wonderful time with family camping.

I agree, no need to make apologies. My TV is commonly called a "grocery getter", but it does a fine job for our needs, and has without issue for over 10 years. Don't think we'll ever own a trailer more than 7,000 loaded, so we might not even go 3/4 ton when we buy again...if we do, something like you have would be awesome!

Our kids have named several of our vehicles and every time it's become a lifelong memory. We've had "McQueen", "Copper" and of course, "Chevy"...they weren't very inventive with the truck, but they were infants when they named it and now they're almost 9. They've redifined the word "Chevy" in my mind. When I here it I think of our trusty truck instead of a brand.

I have to say - this will be the biggest truck I've owned (F150 and a Dakota before this) - it's a dang sight bigger than what I drive today (a VW Golf) but five minutes and two turns into the test drive I was in love... I haven't had a truck for about 6 years and I'm soooo happy to have one again.
