New truck pricing

2 thoughts here. 1. Order what you want and get it the way you want it. Then wait. 2. I agree that w/ all the trucks sitting around (both Ford and GM.....dunno about Ram), I would tend to think that the mfr's would want to unload them ASAP once they get the "parts" in, therefore discounting them. My $.02.

I was thinking that exact same thing seeing pictures of rows incomplete vehicles waiting for chips/etc. With the end of the model year approaching and knowing Tesla has over a million preorders for their fast coming Cybertruck (maybe not something us RVers would want but still digging into truck sales overall), it seems like the legacy manufacturers will feel the need to chop prices dramatically to move the backlog once they obtain parts to finish them. I kind of doubt finishing those trucks is only a matter of plugging in a part and shipping them. I would think the vehicle would still need final inspections back on the line and then need to be loaded and shipped. I wouldn't think those trucks would be at dealers until at least September when buyers would be expecting to see 2022s. With GM and Ford teetering, this might be the end of one of them.

There was news a few weeks ago that Ford had received a large shipment of chips and is trying to get thousands of trucks to consumers very soon. I know that you are looking at a GM product but supply anywhere eases stress everywhere.

Personally, I don't expect the Tesla truck to have much impact on the market for at least 9 months. However, we are in a bubble right now and anything bought now will depreciate rapidly when supply does catch up.

Related Question: is this why the used market is so crazy right now? Seems like you don't save as much as you used to buying a 3 or so year old truck compared to new. Maybe I'm just old, but I seem to remember buying a 3 year old truck was a pretty huge savings over new. Now, you are almost better off special ordering and waiting for better warranty, maybe better financing. . . I know you aren't talking used, but maybe another symptom of the market right now.

Right now the demand is way high and so are prices; and prices continue to rise. Yes one day you may be able to get a better deal (or not) - that day is not today. Some day prices may go down, but it could be 6 months, a year, 5 years, who knows when. So the question is do you want to bet those trucks sitting waiting for chips where built on speculation that is higher then the demand? The reality today is they’re sold before they can get them off the delivery truck. I’d bet that trend will continue. YOMV.

The up side of the current situation is that the price of used vehicles has gone up about 10% since the first of the year. If you can find something on the lot that suits you, great, but if you order you're in for a long wait. I ordered a Toyota Tacoma on January 4th and received it 2 days ago. (This is July 24th).

GM is "teetering"? Nobody knew that. First Quarter earnings crushed expectations, sales volume was up, and projected earnings for the year are up. I think expecting one of those two to fail and expecting the supposed million Tesla truck reservations to become real are certainly fools errands.

Teetering? You can’t be serious

Price of a 3500 compared to a 2500 is very minimal in difference. I'd say go 3500, then you won't need to buy another new truck when you want a gargantuan RV upgrade down the road.

^^^^ Yup order a new 2022 GMC 3500. The 2500 is pretty much identical other than it has no overload springs and therefore can only hand about half the payload.
