Ok I have a 2014 TRD Tundra 4x4 Double Cab Factroy HD tow package new BFG ta KO2 tires E, looking at pulling a 7500 pd Kodiak 300bhsl With WDH , I am installing a brake controller p3 also. Am I gonna be ok with this trailer , Im getting a awfully good deal on it ? Im not interested in buying the biggest truck. I know towing on my truck is maxed at like 9800 pds . I would like some honest opinions , but I dont wanna get into the whole argument that you need a 2500 to do every job and that a 1500 is only good for towing nothing more than a small trailer . If you own a Tundra and are using it to tow I would like to hear from you . Just a note the guy is pulling it now with a 2010 Nissan Armada with know issues. :h
Thanks
I tow a 7k (loaded) toy hauler with a 2012 5.7 Tundra (same drivetrain/suspension as the 2014). I'm within 100 lbs. of my maximum payload (1460 lbs.) on every trip. Most of the responses in this thread are spot-on IMO. Yup, payload (tongue weight) is very much an issue with most 1/2 ton trucks.
Here's your predicament. You're "looking" at (considering) the purchase of a Kodial 300BHSL. You know the EMPTY weight, EMPTY tongue weight, and the GVWR. However, what you do NOT know is the REALWORLD, LOADED tongue weight. This number could be all over the place---my guess anywhere from 750-1500 lbs.---depending on location/weight of the batteries/propane/generator, how/where you load your gear, and the location of (and the amount of water in) the grey/black/fresh water tanks.
IMO, there's no way to accurately answer your question without taking this/any TT, vacation-ready/loaded, to a scale and weigh it. Any other approach is just a guess.
Good luck!
