My dealer wants 300 bucks just to change the two fuel filters. Buying them online they are around $125 for the set. Throw in an oil change and the labor and that sounds about right. That’s why I change both fuel filters myself. Takes about 20 minutes.

And many agreed, and many have commented that if a person so chose to go where the OP's friend went, then the prices would probably be commensurate to the OP's friends experience.
Considering how many trips around the sun the average member on this website has experienced, I find this strange that "issues" like this are even slightly newsworthy.
Is it really possible that folks are unaware of things like this?
So it wasn't an issue per se, it was a comment from the OP on how ridiculous he considered the cost.

Oil change on my Duramax is about $50.00 if I do it myself.
If I take it to my selling dealer, it's $0.00.
I used to take it there all the time until I moved 300 miles away.
I always take it to my GMC dealer as they own that engine for 100,000 miles. They cost a little more but they have found and repaired issues in the past.
