If you're the least bit unsure, replace 'em. I was enroute back to Kingsville Texas and one blew apart, replaced it with the spare...and sure enough 60 miles later the other one came apart (pictured here) As ya can see, it's got plenty of tread. They have less than 2,000 miles total on them. It doesn't matter how old they were. I should have known better, and I did, but I didn't replace them. Now it's sitting on four new ones and another new one for a spare.

I guess I will be the first to ask. What brand tires and how old are they?Edit. OK, I was second on brand.

I am curious about the statement it doesn't matter how old they where. IT MATTERS GREATLY.

I know it's financially painful to replace tires with good tread. But if they have aged out, it's much less painful to replace them than it is to have significant damage when they fly apart.

Tires were replaced "approx four years or so ago" from the previous owner. Well....I don't think that they were and judging from the outward appearance I had no reason to not believe him. Anyhow, yes it was the rear tires that came apart but I have five new 8 ply tires. I could not find LT tires when I needed them.

2008 tires should have been replaced in 2013.

What you see is normal for extremely low mileage tires.

If these were OEM tires on that 2005 then they are VERY OLD (10 + years)

If these were second set of tires on that 2005 then they were OLD (avg. 5 yrs/set)

If these were the third set of tires on that 2005 then what was the Brand and DOT Date code?

Average to replace is 5 years, I have never wore out the tread on trailer tires. They always dry rot first.

I have a 2008 TT that the tires looked like new. I was doing some maintenance where I was on the ground. I looked at the tires and inbetween the tread there were large cracks. The sidewalls looked perfect, not any signs of cracking.

When I bought my trailer the seller stated "new", tires. The build date of the tires was 2008. When I made an issue of the old tires, I think he thought I was trying to scam him. To him, the tires looked brand new. I put new tires on and just completed a 3500 mile trip with no problems, and peace of mind!
