The people trapped in the car you ran into may be greatly concerned about your magnesium fire in your hydrogen powered car. Or maybe just your magnesium fire. (There are hydrogen powered cars on the road today)...
1) Gaseous Hydrogen (GH2) per volume is safer than liquid gasoline.
2) GH2 will rapidly rise up into the atmosphere when released while gas will puddle on the ground
3) GH2 has a very narrow explosive level (LEL - UEL). It is very difficult to make GH2 Explode.
4) A GH2 fire event is very short lived. It's a rising orange fire ball that is over very quickly, within seconds. Liquid gas will puddle on the ground, off-gas to a gaseous form (which is the only form that burns) and produces a combustion source for several minutes.
But don't let facts get in your way.
