The ring around the lens is supposed to block the IR from the LED's but the smallest gap will make night vision look like shining a flashlight into a dense fog as the IR is reflected back into the camera. I was trying to get info from Tadibrothers on one of their cameras and they recommended one of this style. When I mentioned my previous experience with these the reply I got was-

The LEDs soak in the light and make nightvision possible
That pretty much told me what to expect from tech support. On the other hand, they did work well with me when I was having problems with a rear view mirror/monitor I purchased from them. The problem was the mirror surface over the display basically washed out the display if there was any light colored object being reflected in the mirror. They sent a replacement and even sent a newer model they received while I was working through this problem. In the end, they ended up giving me a full refund. So from that perspective, I give them 2 thumbs up. Just be sure you know what you're shopping for. Along those lines, if you get a camera with IR LED's, try to find one where the LED's are not behind the same shield as the camera lens, for example
