Open Range Ultra Lite - Jay Flight - WhiteHawk Quality

A Jayco Jay Flight or possibly White Hawk are on my short list. I was wondering if anyone has any first-hand knowledge on the quality of the Open Range Ultra Lite. The White Hawk has the tongue and groove 5/8" plywood floors with the ultra-lite style of walls (vacuum-bonded laminate). From what I can tell, the Open Range Ultra Lite does too, other than I don't think the ultra-lite walls are constructed in the same way in that they are not vacuum-bonded. I've read positive things about the Open Range line, but I was wondering if that quality is the same for their Ultra Lite line.

Just bought the Open Range UltraLite 2410RL. No experience: however, the website has a good 15 min tour of construction processes I found interesting. I am interested in the new roof material. Good warrantee ect.

I don't use the shower in the trailer. I've stood in it, and it was OK height wise. But I'm a big person and it would be a squeeze for me. That's why they invented KOA. I think the actual tank valves are under the cover. I didn't check real close because I'm more concerned about the heat than the cold. But I don't remember seeing the valves under there. We just got back from a long haul. From California to Colorado it towed like a dream. The dealer threw in a new WD hitch with anti-sway (Husky Center-Line TS I believe). The ride back was against huge headwinds, which wasn't pleasant. But I would have felt it in a 3/4 or even 1 ton truck. 20 to 28 mph winds, mostly headwinds. Semis were blowing all over the place. I brought this up in a post on one of the other forums on RV.Net. Other folks were trying to drive in it as well. They were just as uncomfortable. Except for the guy in the CTD (Cummins turbo diesel) who went 80 and didn't feel a thing. And got 30 mpg to boot!

Thanks for the input, I see we're the same height so we have the same issues with some units. I find showers are a challenge even though they give a skylight for my head 🙂

Are your dump valves enclosed? I'm finding several that claim 4-season protection with heated enclosed tanks, etc, but then the gate valves are hanging out in the open. My last motorhome was that way too, so price doesn't necessarily mean it's well protected.

How do you like towing that length with the F150? I just bought one with the Ecotec engine and 10-spd xmsn.

We just took our Open Range Ultra Light on it's first long trip. About 3500 miles. We loved it. No issues with the trailer. There are a couple of issues with adjustments the dealer needs to make, or should have made. But the trailer is solid. We love the floor plan. I love the electric jack and electric stabilizer jacks. They just did a recall on the LED lights in the ceiling. They will be replacing them later this month. They told us not to keep them on for more than an hour at a time until they are replaced. I like the single switch to turn on all of the ceiling lights at once. The bedroom has it's own switch. The bunks have a separate switch as well. I like the "vaulted" ceiling which has more of an arch to it than I have seen anywhere else. My 6'4"s doesn't feel claustrophobic in the cabin. Ours has the extra insulation and enclosed and heated tanks in it. The doors on the pass through and the exterior fridge are a couple of inches thick.
We've only had it for a month, but so far, I'm extremely pleased with it.

How have your cable slides been? Ive always had rack and pinion slides, but am looking at a couple now that employ the cable slides.

We have an Open Range but not the ultra light model. We have been very happy with the quality. There are a lot of Open Range Light owners out there. We just got home from the Texas rally and probably more Light models than any other. Try the Open Range Owners Forum for a better response.

We recently purchased a Jayco WhiteHawk 28BHKS. Great trailer, highly recommend the WhiteHawk line.

Check the Jayco Owners forum to see the real difference between the JayFlight vs Whitehawk . Axle capacity, size of tires, standard EQ. water tank size option, etc . The JayFlight is the upper, then compare that to the other. Research the frame that its built on .

I would buy any floorplan i like from a dealer with a reputation to stand behind it. The differences in brand quality can be a lot of hype especially if you get a lemon and the dealer and MFG won't stand behind you.
A good dealer can make any brand a better trailer at no cost to you while under warranty and often beyond.

Perhaps there aren't many Open Range Ultra Lite owners out there. If you have one I'd like to hear your experience with it and what you thought of the company's customer service and warranty work.

I had narrowed it down to the Jay Flight 27BHS or the WhiteHawk 29BH, when I came across the Open Range Ultra Lite UT2802BH. If the quality of the UT2802BH was on par with the Jaycos I'd seriously consider it because it has some aspects I prefer. But I'd put quality before a few minor details. Any Ultra Lite owners out there want to weigh in on their experience with this rv?

I didn't look at them closely, but thought the fit and finish on the Highland Ridge Ultra-Lites was pretty good. I wouldn't mind owning one. They definitely have the better floorplans for our needs.
