Payload rating on F-450.

Ok, looked at F-450 Platinum 4wd, with all the bells, and whistles, has the fifthwheel prep pkg. The stamped limit was 4770 lbs for cargo payload carrying capacity. My question is, is that enough for a 3700 pound hitch weight toyhauler. Did Ford factor in the fifthwheel hitch already in this figure? Anyone with F-450's pulling large heavy toyhaulers please chime in.

If you are looking at your payload sticker, that is figured on the actual wt when the truck left the factory, which includes the under bed
fw prep, subtracted from the trucks GVWR. That truck is more than enough, for the FW pin wt you mention. The rear axle/tires are designed to carry plenty more.

Yes the F-350 would most likely, I just really like the F450. Nothing set in stone though.

The F450 will also give you larger brakes. Well worth it to me for the heavy load.

The weight claim is usually made on a stripped down truck with few if any accessories. And it varies quite a bit in the real world depending on axle ratios, engines, transmissions and so on.

I understand the hitch is not a factor in the rating, but if the truck has the fifthwheel prep pkg from the factory, the hardware that comes on the truck from the factory, is that hardware a factor in the weight rating.

Yes, thats exactly what I was asking. I was thinking probably a couple hundred, depending on the hitch.

No the hitch is not included in that number nor is the weights of the passengers, misc cargo or anything else. You may need a MDT
