Plans for a great trip to the PNW

Well, the wife got next week off and we planned on a trip up to Oregon-Washington area as we like to go up there and have done this for years. As we had planned on this for some time I decided to get new wheels and tires for the rig. ( I have a post " questions to Vision 19.5 wheel users") Well that didn't work out so well if you read the post you will see why. So with nothing else to do I put the stock wheels back on the truck and asked the wife if she would like to take a short trip up North for a few days. Started to raise the camper then a fuse blew on one of the jacks WTF? So I fiddle with this for awhile and find it is one of the motors on the front jack. I don't think I mentioned that 2 hrs. before I had made reservations at a campground that we had been to before (but I had to get a site that my wife would approve first which is another story completely @*&# ) I tell her we can lift it with a crank on the one jack,But I am thinking "F' this, and she must have read my mind because she said maybe we should stay home something is not right with the stars or something ( I tended to agree) so here we are,at home, so I decided tho take the bad motor apart although I had already found that water had pretty much made a mess of it. Took it apart, washed it with a toothbrush, sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner, and put it all back together. I took a 9v radio battery ( I know I know)to test it and Voowallaa it worked! But I had already ordered a new one and being that we are not going anywhere now I will wait until the new one arrives. Now this all has happened within this last week,so today I decided to take all the remaining jack motors off and go through them. They were all good but I found a few things that could be improved upon, one being a drain hole on the bottom of the motor should water happen to get in. I would have taken pictures but I found when I had the problem with the wheels that my camera(which I don't use that much but I take the batteries out when not in use) also took a dump. Great week guys ,lets see how this next one turns out.

I agree with the post above - wait till after labor day. So much nicer when the kids are warehoused in school and people are back on their jobs where they belong :).

Heheh, yep I call it the "Summer BKTs"..

(Bugs-Kids-Traffic)

and Summer has been my "off season" for last 6 yrs in the TD Camping... will be the same with the AF pickup in Sept...

Now anticipation of going "Full Time" I'll be "Far away from the Maddening Crowds".. well, that's the game plan.

PNW is great during the Fall/winter storms etc...

fun..

With the exception of the jack motor it has been great. I will be covering the motors this winter with plastic bags or something.

According to the manual for my '99 f350, the standard jack will lift the truck at GVW. But I haven't tried it.

How's the Bigfoot 10.4 doing? Been using mine a fair bit this summer and enjoying it.

Yah, it sounds like you were better off not going... but the good news is.....
It'll still be there and you'll be able to go without all the crowds, assuming after Sept..

Seems like it used to be day after Labor Day, the crowds stayed home, school, summer over etc...
But now, lately, seems not until the end of Sept does it start to thin out..

bummer...

ps. well at least you now have a spare jack and know how to fix'em... that's worthwhile.. right??

fun..

I like the last line, as I was working on the jack motors I had to move the rear awning down to access some screws, in order to do that I had to get the rod with a hook out of the basement to pull the awning down. While in the basement I noticed that the 10 or whatever ton bottle jack I have has leaked hydrolic fluid all over, thank god L had it in a tupperware type box. Can the stock jack lift the truck and the camper.. that is the 5 dollar question now. Maybe I should go out and buy a lottery ticket...I may hit at least 1 number ..naw
