Pre- turbo EGT's... what are you seeing?

07 5.9 Cummins. With a healthy tune, I can race past 14-1500 deg pre turbo on steep grades at highway speeds. Truck keeps accelerating as fast as the egt guage.
with a tow tune I can top 1400 as well towing uphill highway speeds.
I keep it between 1300 and 1400 though unless necessary to drop the hammer for a short period of time.

This is a nice reliable upgrade on the 24V ISB. I had this on my 98.5, Just keep checking your lift pump pressure every oil change so you know when it goes out, before it cost you a VE pump.

I just came home from a week long trip to the North Idaho mountains, and pulling all the various passes between there and Seattle I regularly hit 1350 if I pushed it, but for the most part I kept myself from pushing the go-peddle past 1250.

It's been my experience from friends/family who run Dodges that they try not to go over 1200, where as the old 7.3L Fords can regularly hit 1350. I've had mine for almost 15 years, never had an engine or turbo related problem, just upgrades when I felt like it.

pulling up mountain passes I can hit 1350 for short runs but normally under 1k (with 4k of camper and 3k of trailer/toys

Just keep in mind that if you run a tune that advances your timing, your max safe temp will be lower than stock.

On a long steep grade my pre-turbo temps can easily hit 1300 with the tune that I usually run. I have de-fuel set to that level but will usually back off the throttle a bit when I hit 1250, at least if it looks like it's going to be at that temperature for a while. Running on the flat at 70-75 mph I'm usually between 600 and 800 degrees. I read somewhere that the alloy used in Cummins piston melts at 1250, but with the piston riding in a cooled cylinder and being bathed in cooler oil maintains a lower temperature that the exhaust gas. I have also heard that guys using the Cummins for pulling competitions will often exceed 2500 degrees for brief periods of time.

I would see 1400-1500 in the old Ford 6.0 drag racing or sled pulling. My 2012 CumminGs sees no more then 1200-1300 on a good long hill. Haven't raced or pulled with it yet.

My max wasn't going up steep grades but trying to maintain a 60 mph speed in a 38-45 mph head wind in western Kansas with my 13' tall 11200 lb 5th wheel trailer storage shed flat front square corners profile. Temps climbed into the 1300-1350 range so I backed off mph till the Cummins would run in the 1200 range all day long.

A side note on EGT's.
I've ran with a empty truck in 110-113 temps at legal 75 mph around here...then pulled into a rest area and had to idle for 6-8 min before EGT dropped to a safe shut down temps.

5.9 Dodge, juice with attitude tuner that I can program to any ETG I want and it "de fuels" at my setting of 1250 degrees. I set max boost at 29 pounds and turbo cool down at 350 degrees.
