Preventing Repeat Of Frozen Water Hose

DW & I had an issue last week with our water freezing. There was about 3' of copper pipe coming out of the ground leading to the tap which froze, as did our 25' hose. I purchased a heat cable to prevent this from happening again. Instructions say not to use it with hose because there must be water in the line that the cable is attached to at all times but an RV supply hose always contains water. It also says not to let it touch the ground but if I tape foam pipe insulation around it I should be okay. I also plan to attach it to any exposed copper supply line as well as the tap. Wish me luck!

My dad camped in 15ยฐ degree weather and never unhooked his water and never had a problem...

What he did was get some foam pipe insulation...enough for the hose...he also got a rope light...wrapped the rope light around the hose and the faucet....then wrapped the hose and rope light I. The pipe insulation...he also used house hold faucet covers at the water inlet at the RV to keep it from freezing...he just left the rope light on all the time and it kept the hose or faucet from freezing.

Just what worked for him.

Thanks!

In freezing weather I only hook up the hose to fill the tanks, or use bottled water and pink stuff in the toliet.

this will do it, use another heat tape for the faucet, tape to below ground level, and cover with foam insulation taped in place.

Walmart sells aluminum tape. Actually metallic. I wrap the tape around my hose first then tape the heat tape to it. If you plan it ight you can have enough to put on the pipe also.Or buy a short one for yhat. I used to use aluminum foil on the hose until Walmart started carrying the tape.

How about fill your fresh water tank just in case. Could even bring the hose in at night.

Still need heat tape for the faucet.

Sounds like a good plan.
