Price on a used trailer at dealer?

Does anyone have an idea on how much dealers mark up a used trailer? I've read here that dealers are willing to discount 30% off new trailers but how much are they willing to discount used trailers or is it too varied to say?

Thanks,

  • When I bought my new to me TT I found it on a dealers lot for 16k we loved everything about the trailer but the price. I came home and hit craigslist found the same exact TT same year even the only difference was the fabric color. He was asking 12k I offered 9k and we settled on 9500k. In all fairness I never tried negotiating a deal with dealer but I doubt he would have went down 6500k.
  • Search RV Trader, Ebay and other web sights to try and get an average price and go from there.
  • 40-50% is not unusual. They seem to mark up used trailers much more than new. KNow your numbers, check out the internet on similar rigs, etc. You can save big.
  • As I explained to my teenage daughter many years ago, the dealer may not make the profit they want; but they will not sell at a loss.

The NADA price is a good start point. Beware of prep, closing and other costs that seen to accrue.

If you tell them right off the bat that you are talking the number that you are going to write on the check including taxes it cuts though a lot of BS.

Also, I rarely by the same day I look. I like to sleep on it.

    Good luck
  • On a Saturday afternoon near the end of the month, 4:30 PM you walk in, it's raining, and you check it out. If it doesn't show leaks, make the deal at 40% off or walk away.
  • Different dealers different prices. for exact same trailer. A trailer in the Northeast can be priced 20-30% higher than in Florida, Texas etc.
All you can do is go online and see the price range for the one you are interested in.
  • Its up to you to make an offer . You shoot low ,they shoot high , you meet somewhere in between .
