prodigy p3 question

just brought home my new outback 250rs, had the dealer hookup the reese dual cam hitchwork and p3 brake controller out of my old ford into my new Tundra.

from my recolection with the p3 you would see a "c" when connected and towing and the disply would show you numbers as you applied more brake force.

I see the NC, for not connected and it goes blank when I apply brake pressue. the brakes do seem to work but I'm thinking something is off. the dealer hooked up his test box and it showed that the controller was working but the display is certainly not...I don't know if he wired it wrong or the unit is now bad???

also when I came out of the dealer I heard a hum from the brakes just sitting there in the parking lot...not good...I played with the manual trigger and it seemed to clear.

anyone familiar with these that could help me figure this out?

Thanks,
Andy

Thanks guys, took the truck to the local trailer supply store, and they tested the prodigy (p2) and said it was working, but display was not registering correclty... they replaced the 10 year old unit for free!

thanks for all the info!

sorry, yes I believe it is the p2, I called the trailer supply store I bought it from years ago...they said there is a lifetime warranty on the unit, so bring it by and they will check it out...if it's bad they'll give me a new one or allow me to upgrade to the p3 for a few $.

If you are seeing NC and C on the display you do not have a Prodigy P3. In order to help you we need to know what controller you have. Give Tekonsha ( 800-STOP-YOU )a call if you have one of their other controllers and they can give you more help than you will get here. But I am sure you have a wiring problem and they will not be able to do much until you get that corrected.

Mine shows a "C" when connected and numbers when breaking. You can also hear the trailer brakes hum when standing next to it during breaking (backing in to site etc.).

I don't recall ever seeing a "C" ... just the voltage numbers. If it is not hooked up you get no numbers, and if you are then you get the numbers. Never looked for anything else other than maybe the Boost level, but then that is usually where I left it (B or B1 typically).

Pull your camper a little and hold down on brake and see if the tires locked up. If it states NC, probably not connected properly...

It certainly sounds like something isn't connected right. However it's difficult to say what wire or connection is wrong from the symptoms your getting. As it should, the manual says how it should work when hooked up right. If it's wrong, who knows what it would do. You seem to have an older P3 as mine displays slightly differently, however, yes it should show the voltage applied to the brakes when you step on the brakes. The Manual is on line if you don't have one. I suggest going over the wiring, or taking it back and having the dealer do it right. You paid for it after all.
