Question about Lippert slides

The 2015 Passport 2400BH I am looking at buying has a Lippert slide-out room according to the dealer. I have heard mixed things about these slides, but from what I understand their smaller ones are generally better, is this true? The slide is small and only contains the dinette. Thoughts?

I have a Lippert (rack and gear) slideout with the King dinette and 2 Schwintek slides - one with the 67" sofa, fridge and stove and one with the wardrobe. All work just fine (knock on wood) for over a year of camping. They just need maintenance - cleaning and lubricating.

I have a FunFinder with the Schwintek rack and pinion type slide. It has worked fine now for four seasons. I did have one issue that I blame on the trailer manufacturer (not Lippert).

Under the slide floor and attached to the trailer there are three nylon rollers. One of those rollers was so impacted with caulking that it had never turned like it was supposed to when the slide moved in or out. As a result I started to get damage to the bottom of the slide floor. The damage could only be seen by crawling under the slide when it was extended so it went un-noticed for a long time. If you have rollers like these I suggest checking them.

Biggyniner are you buying through Curtis trailers? If you are they will stand behind the product.

I am buying through Curtis, so far I have been very pleased with the sales staff, in fact all their staff.. They seem to know their stuff.

You can avoid a lot of issues and bugs with a new rig, by performing a thorough PDI and having all bug items repaired to your liking before you take delivery and more importantly before you sign the dotted line.

Awesome checklist, thank you.

There's been a lot of issues with the Schwintek system, which used gear racks on the outside of the slide and small stepper motors. So far, it seems like Thor motorhomes have the most problems, which makes me think it could be an installation problem or poorly constructed walls, and not a design problem.

Thanks for the reply's...

I think a part of me is just gun shy after having so many issues with my 02 Holiday rambler. Then when I read even new units have their bugs to work out, I get even more leery of spending a lot of money.

Are you referring to cable driven or gear rail driven slides? My fiver has gear driven rail slides (Lippert) and have never had issues. They are proven and have been in use for a long time.
I have heard of issues with the cable driven slides (stretched cables, pulleys coming loose, etc).

Correction
I don't want to come across that cable slides are bad. I'm sure that issues with cables and pulleys is the exception rather than the rule. I have just read multiple posts on issues with cable adjustments more than anything.

That's exactly what I have. Mine has worked fine over the life of the unit. The only problem I had was that I stepped on the raised portion of the slide floor when it was partially out and broke a plastic guide under it.
I would not hesitate to buy another one.

Great... I believe mine is the cable driven version...

...Don't. Stress and worry about it. I am sure there are thousands of units with cable slides that have never had an issue. Enjoy what you bought or as edited...enjoy whatever you are thinking of buying.

My MH has a full slide that is hydraulic. It runs the hose over and takes off the Lippert Jack system. The only problem I have had is several of the connectors were loose and leaked. Once tightened seems OK. I had a slow hydraulic leak in the slide hose and slide drifted out after a few days. Didn't notice it during the warranty period because it was such a slow leak. I tightened up the connection and no further problems.
